How many cubes of wax do you use in a warmer?

The Great Debate! How many cubes of Scentsy wax should I use in my Authentic Scentsy Warmer?

How many cubes of Scentsy wax should be used in a Scentsy warmer? First, let me start off by saying these are suggestions, every person will have a different reaction to fragrances. Something that I personally think is strong may not be one that you personally find strong.  The tips, tricks & suggestions are based on what I know to work for me, and also what has been suggested by the company & the experience of my clients.  I would definitely love to hear from you with your experiences too!

The amount of wax you use will vary, depending on the size of the warmer and the size of your room.  In the Fall & Winter, 2017 catalog Scentsy started adding a recommended number of cubes on the bottom of the warmer dishes!  Add more or fewer cubes depending on your personal preference, but our recommendations are a great place to start!

See! There is a number stamp on the bottom of this StarDance warmer dish! (This is a clear dish, so I didn’t need to turn it over, but the white & colored dishes you will want to turn over to see the recommended number of cubes)

If you are BRAND NEW to Scentsy I  recommend starting with 1, maybe 2 cubes of wax in your warmer.  Only because you don’t know what the fragrance strength is going to do for you. If you find that the fragrance is too much, you can pour it right back into the clamshell, let it harden up, and reuse it! How awesome is that?

How many cubes of wax do you use in a warmer?

Wax melts are rather new to the home fragrance scene so if you don't know what they are, don't worry, you're not alone! Read on to find out how to use wax melts and what they are.

Put simply, wax melts, also known as wax tarts, are flameless alternatives to candles. They usually come in bars that look similar to a chocolate bar and can be broken up into cubes and melted to release the fragrance inside.

Wax Melts Vs Candles

So what are the key differences between using candles and scented wax melts? Well, the main difference is the way they look and how you use them. Candles can simply be lit for two to four hours and then blown out. Wax melts on the other hand, have to be gently melted using a wax melt warmer, also known as a wax burner. These come in two variations, electric or tea light burners.

The main benefit to using wax melts, is that they're generally safer to use. An electric burner has no naked flame and most tea lights will burn themselves out after four hours.

How To Use Wax Melts

Although they're not quite as simple to use as candles, once you've got the hang of wax melts, they're really quite straightforward.

Step 1: Select your wax melt

There's plenty of wax melts to choose from in a range of different wax types. Most wax melts use either paraffin or soy wax, however we use only rapeseed and coconut wax for a luxurious, eco-friendly finish.

Step 2: Put your wax melt in your burner

Depending on the size of your wax melts, you typically only need to use 1-2 cubes or tarts of wax. For our wax melts, we recommend using just one cube.

Simply pop the wax melt into the dish of your wax burner.

Step 3: Turn on your burner

If you're using an electric warmer, there should be a switch or button to turn it on. If you're using a tea light warmer, simply light your tea light and pop it into the designated hole below the dish. Keep an eye out for our own range of eco-friendly tea lights on the way!

Once you've got your wax burner on the go, the wax will slowly melt to release a beautiful aroma. One cube from our wax melts will last for approximately 8 hours.

As we mentioned earlier, your tea light should put itself out after 4 hours, so you may need to replace it. Some electric warmers come with built in timers, however if yours does not, we recommend purchasing a timer plug so you don't forget to turn it off.

If you decide to only burn your wax melt for an hour or so, you can simply let the wax harden and re-burn at a later time.

Step 4: Remove the wax and clean your burner

If you've burnt your wax melt and are thinking "why doesn't this smell anymore?" you may be experiencing a case of nose-blindness, or more likely, it's time to change your wax melt.

So how do you empty a wax burner? Firstly, make sure your burner is cool to touch.

Next, there are a few methods you can use to empty your burner. Some people like to burn the wax for a few minutes until it's in a liquid form, soak it up using cotton balls and discard.

Others will turn on the burner for a moment until the wax has loosened slightly, scoop it out and pop it in the bin.

Alternatively you can use re-useable popper liners. Sit a liner in the burner dish, put your melt in, and simply pop the hardened wax back out when you're finished for a less messy approach.

Once you've removed your wax, wipe the burner dish down with either a paper towel or damp cloth. We don't recommend using cleaning products as this may give off harmful gases when burning.
