In sports, most of the clubs have a mascot to represent them anywhere. In the National Football League is not different and there are 27 teams that have one in every single home game, but how much do they make per year?

Not everything in football is the game as it is. There are also some other things that make it one of the best shows around the country, including the extra entertainment on and off the pitch.

American sports have some of the best mascots around the world, from the iconic Benny the Bull from the Chicago Bulls (NBA) to Indianapolis Colts' Blue. They are in charge of bringing extra joy in every game, either in the stands or on the pitch.

How much does an NFL mascot earns?

There are some NFL mascots that are very recognizable even if you're not a football fan. They have won extra followers on social media and their job has evolved into something else than just cheering in the games.

According to SportsKeeda, mascots in college and professional football earn different amounts of money. In the first one, the paycheck is around $25,000 per year, as for the second one it grows to $60,000 per year average.

But besides that average, there is one that surpasses the rest: NBA Denver Nugets' Rocky. The top basketball mascot makes $625,000 per season and he was even inducted into the Mascot Hall of Fame in 2006.

The Minnesota Vikings may have one of the highest payrolls in the NFL — $175 million, the fifth-highest in 2022, according to Spotrac — but they are one of the cheapest teams in terms of paying their mascots.

According to a report from Y.105-FM in Rochester, Minnesota, the Vikings are one of the league’s five cheapest teams in terms of mascot pay. Viktor, Minnesota’s mascot, joins Blue, (Indianapolis Colts), Blitz (Seattle Seahawks), Freddie Falcon (Atlanta Falcons) and Sir Purr (Carolina Panthers) as the lowest-paid mascots in the NFL, earning $40 per hour or $50,000 per year.

Rowdy (Dallas Cowboys) and Pat Patriot (New England Patriots) are the highest-paid mascots in the NFL, earning $50 per hour or $65,000 per year, while Sourdough Sam (San Francisco 49ers) ranks third, earning $45 per hour or $60,000 per year.

Five teams — the New York Jets, Las Vegas Raiders, Green Bay Packers, New York Giants and Washington Commanders— don’t have a mascot.

Compared to other professional sports, the NFL has relatively low wages for mascots. Although, the NFL has just 17 regular-season games and three preseason games, while the NBA plays an 82-game regular-season schedule and MLB plays 162 games.

The highest-paid mascot in the NBA works for the Denver Nuggets. Rocky the Mountain Lion brings home a $625,000 annual salary, while the Atlanta Hawks mascot, Harry the Eagle, earns $600,000 per year. Others in the six figures include Benny The Bull (Chicago Bulls) at $400,000 per year, Go the Gorilla (Phoenix Suns) at $200,000 per year and Hugo The Hornet (Charlotte Hornets) at $100,000 per year.

Besides having some online sports betting action, NFL mascots play an integral role in the live viewing experience at a game, but a question many people wonder about is how much they make per year.

Whether it’s Billy Buffalo, Roary, Freddie Falcon, or Blue, there are plenty of unique mascot presences surrounding the NFL. These talented, athletic humans enhance the in-stadium atmosphere, help create noise, and entertain while engaging with fans.

What’s even more interesting is that not every team in the league has one. The New York Jets, New York Giants, Green Bay Packers, Los Angeles Chargers, and Washington Commanders all don’t currently have a mascot for 2022.

How Much Does an NFL Mascot Make?

Although there isn’t a set rate for each mascot in the NFL, the average mascot in 2022 reportedly makes $60,000 annually. Other leagues, such as MLB, the NHL, and the NBA, have different rates for how much annual income their mascots take home.

What the NFL mascots have going for them compared to the other sports is that they have a much shorter regular season schedule and don’t tend to travel for road games.
