For bees who have added a halo to their solitaires, about how much did it cost? I am thinking of having my ring lowered since it’s a high setting, and to do to they will have to replace the whole head. The thought crossed my mind to add a halo while I’m at it, so just wanted to get a rough idea of cost. Thanks! Post # 3 Member3501 posts Sugar bee
I would think you need a whole new setting. Post # 4 Member856 posts Busy bee
I did it and it was a whole new setting, mine was platinum and I also added small diamonds to the band and it was like $3800, I think mine was a little high but it had to be custom made to fit my stone. Post # 5 Member34 posts Newbee
setting my round loose stone in a cushion halo with diamonds half way around the band cost $3700. Post # 6 Member3879 posts Honey bee
I didn’t add a halo, but chose a halo setting from the start. It was about $2000 (has pave diamonds on the shank). It’s 18k white gold. Post # 7 Member227 posts Helper bee
This may be a silly question but is the high cost because of the diamonds involved or just the process? For example would using moissanite cut that down a bit? Post # 8 Member8611 posts Bumble Beekeeper
I would assume you’d need a whole new setting but I could be wrong….have you asked a jeweler about it? Post # 9 Member1043 posts Bumble bee
It depends on what kind of solitaire you have. If you have a very simple solitaire where the head is a peg set head, meaning it is not really integrated in the setting, then the head can be removed and a new head with a halo can be put on. I know someone that recently had this done. The jeweler does not add an existing halo to your prongs/head, it is replaced with a whole new one. Stuller makes these halo heads. Her diamond was a decent size (over 1 carat) so her whole new halo head was around $700. The diamonds in the halo are I think 1 pointers, so it’s a pretty dainty halo. However, if you have a trellis or x-prong solitaire, then you cannot just remove the head and add a halo. When I had my diamond reset, I had a three stone ring with the trellis setting and a couple of jewelers told me it could not be done. So I just bought a new setting with the halo on it. Mine has a plain band however and was around $950 for 14 karat white gold. Post # 10 Member 399 posts Helper bee
I haven’t been to a jeweler yet, but I know I have seen some folks on here who have added them without changing the whole setting. Here’s a site that has some: http://www.robbinsbrothers.com/Diamond-Halo-Heads.ring I figured if I was going to change the head anyway, it would be worth looking into a head with a halo. @country chic: Thanks! Mine is peg set. Post # 12 Member1043 posts Bumble bee
This is what I mean by a peg set. See how the head can just be removed and replaced? Post # 13 Member1043 posts Bumble bee
@Tigrrlily04: Then it sounds like it won’t be hard to do. Good luck! Post # 14 Member618 posts Busy bee
i agree with pp, i think you will just have to buy a new setting that already has a halo if you want one. Post # 15 Member35 posts Newbee
I went to Shane Co. and they can add a halo head to your existing setting (depends on how it looks like) for about $450-$650 for a 3/4 diamond, 14k white gold. Can’t wait to get mine! Post # 16 Member48 posts Newbee
@Tigrrlily04: I am in the process of doing this right now! I have a 1 ct squarish radiant in a double prong white gold setting, plain shank. I spoke with 4 local jewelers and the answers I got were varied, one said that it can’t be done with my original setting, three others said no problem and quoted me between $900 and $1200. This included the work, the new halo stones and any extra gold. It really didn’t include any warranty on their work and had I used them it would’ve voided the ESP warranty I purchased on my solitaire. I ended up going to Jared’s where I got the solitaire in the first place. I had purchased the setting alone there and also a loose stone through them. (Highly recommend this process, didn’t even consider it originally and am so happy with the result!) I had an old channel set yellow gold channel set anniv. band I didn’t wear anymore and wanted to use the 1.5 pointers in it for my halo. This saved me about $275 and the quote using my 12 diamonds, plus buying 4 more, the extra gold and custom work/time was $800 and change. I chose to purchase the ESP for just under $200 as it includes any rhodium plating, cleanings, repairs, sizing, etc. Getting the work done through them also didn’t void my existing solitaire warranty. Thus far I have met with them to discuss what I wanted and make initial drawings, I came back 2 weeks later to see the CAD drawings and tweak anything, and I go back next week see the wax version. I feel very much in control, comfortable with the proccess and feel like I’m getting a good value. All things that initially held me back from custom designs in the past. The jeweler and I felt that the 1.5 pointers I had would create too much space between them in the halo and so he upgraded me to 2 pointers at no additional cost as it was an insignificant cost to them. (I’m going to start a thread about 1.5 vs 2 pointers next!) I hope you have a great experience and please consider getting the ESP on whatever you buy, it has paid for itself in my experience just in the rhodium plating if you use white gold! 🙂 The topic ‘How much would it cost to add a halo?’ is closed to new replies. Can you add a halo to an existing ring?Add a Halo: The halo style ring is a ring that has a ring of diamonds around the main center diamond. The halo style of the ring is stylish and very popular. You can even add a second halo to your ring if your ring already has one.
How much does it cost to add a halo to your engagement ring?Halo rings cost anywhere from $500 to $15,000 for the setting on average — based on the number of stones, style, and precious metal. After choosing a center diamond, your ring's total cost will be calculated.
How much would it cost to build a halo ring?A typical halo setting runs around $700 - $1,500, but the impact is huge. To compare, a 1-carat diamond (round) is usually $5,000 - $6,000. A good-valued 2-carat diamond goes for $17,000 - $25,000. But you can spend just $1,000 on a halo setting and have the design appear just as large.
Can you add a halo to a diamond ring?A diamond halo can be added to any shaped center stone and can add up to a full carat size to the appearance of the diamond, depending on the center stone carat size. This is what makes it a popular styling option to maximize your engagement ring budget.
