Kakashi is one of the favorite characters in the Naruto series. Since his backstory is so interesting and he plays such an important role in the overall series, many fans want to know as much as possible about Kakashi, including his age. So how old is Kakashi?

When we first meet Kakashi in Naruto he is 26 years old and after the 15 year old time jump in between the Naruto Shippuden and Boruto, Kakashi is 46 years old in the Boruto series.

Determining Kakashi’s real age is actually quite tricky. His age is never explicitly revealed during the series which is why the only way to figure out Kakashi’s age is to go off the other clues about his age given throughout the series.

Kakashi’s mother died while he was still young and he was raised by his father who also killed himself when Kakashi was around the age of five. 

Around this time we get the first event which can help us determine his age since it is cannon that Kakashi graduated Ninja Academy at the age of five due to his exceptional talents.

The next event that can help us is the Chūnin Exams. It is also cannon that Kakashi was only six years old when he was allowed to compete in the exam again Might Guy and earn his Chūnin title.

The next point in the series timeline we can use to help us determine Kakashi’s age is the beginning of the Third Shinobi War. 

Since most of the people were recruited to help with the ongoing missions, Kakashi was one of the few people left in Konoha, which caused his superiors to promote him to the position of a Jōnin.

It was canonically established that Kakashi was promoted to a Jōnin at the age of 12 which helps us greatly in our task in determining his age.

After the events of the war and his loss of several close friends, Kakashi fell into a bad mental state and the only way out of it in the eyes of his superiours was promoting him to join Anbu, an assassination squad.

The point where we can get a pretty accurate guess regarding Kakashi’s age is the point where Naruto becomes a Genin. During that time period, Naruto is 12 years old. 

According to databooks, we can learn that Kakashi is 14 years older than Naruto, which means that at the beginning of the series Kakashi would be 26 years old.

The rest of the series consists of Naruto’s training. Naruto was trained by Jiraiya for a three-year long period. Going off that we can calculate that Kakashi was three years older than he was at the beginning of the series, making him either 29 or 30. 

How old is Kakashi in Naruto Shippuden?

Since we now have Kakashi’s age at the end of the Naruto series, determining his age in Naruto Shippuden will be much easier than it was to determining his age in Naruto.

This is due to the fact that we know how much time has passed between the end of the Naruto series and the beginning of the Naruto Shippuden series. 

There is a two and a half year long time jump in between to series. This means that if Kakashi was 29 or 30 at the end of the Naruto series, he would be either 31 or 32 at the beginning of Naruto Shippuden.

Although both are possible, there are a few clues that point to 31 being the more likely age. The cannon confirms that Kakashi was 31 by the time the Fourth Shinobi War ended since we know that he was 31 when he was promoted to the position of the Sixth Hokage.

How old is Kakashi in Boruto?

There is a significant gap till the Epilogue. Boruto, the son of Naruto and Hinata Uzumaki, enrolls in the Academy during this time and that event can be used to help us calculate Kakashi’s age. 

This occurs 15 years after the end of the original series end, as we know. As a result, we can observe that Team 7’s pupils have grown to 32. 

Kakashi’s age is estimated to be about 47. Boruto had to be about 10 or 11 years old to be accepted into the Academy. This simply adds to our presumptions.
