Here are five items that can be warmed in either the microwave or the oven. Use a potholder to handle the heated items.

How to Keep Rolls Warm at the Table

Choose one of the following as a warmer: rice, ceramic pie weights, a small terra-cotta flowerpot saucer, a small cast-iron skillet, a heavy stoneware plate

If using rice, microwave it: Add 2 cups rice to a small paper bag, fold over the top of the bag, and microwave until warm, about 2 minutes.

Warm other items in oven: Wrap pie weights in aluminum foil to form a flat, well-sealed pouch. Place wrapped weights or other items, uncovered, in a turned off oven that’s still warm from baking the rolls. Heat for 10–15 minutes.

Place warmed heat source in bread basket:  If using rice or pie weights, lay them as flat as possible in their paper or foil wrapper at the bottom of the bread basket. Cover the heat source with a clean cloth napkin or dish towel. Add the rolls and then fold the corners of the fabric over the rolls to cover.

Dinner rolls are the perfect complement to any dinner and just about everyone loves them.

When it comes to reheating them, the three main options are:

  • Oven
  • Toaster Oven
  • Microwave
  • Air Fryer
  • Slow Cooker

Each reheating method can effectively warm up dinner rolls, but they all have their own pros and cons.

Below, we will give an overview of each method, along with step-by-step reheating instructions.

Please Note: Thaw Frozen Dinner Rolls Before Reheating

If you have your dinner rolls stored in the freezer, you should let them sit and thaw at room temperature before you attempt to reheat them.

How to Reheat Dinner Rolls in the Oven/Toaster Oven?

The oven/toaster is the best way to go about reheating your dinner rolls, as it gives them that freshly baked taste.

It does take some time to get everything warmed up, but the end result will be rolls that are fluffy, soft, warm and depending on how long you leave them in, slightly toasted.

Steps (Paper Bag Method):

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (177 degrees Celsius)
  • Place rolls in a brown paper bag
  • Sprinkle the paper bag with a few drops of water, twist and close it
  • Place in the oven and let it warm up for 10 minutes.
  • After reheating, remove from the oven and serve.

Pros: This is the way they should be reheated. The dinner rolls will be warm, fluffy and toasty.

Cons: Takes time to warm them up.

How to Reheat Dinner Rolls in the Air Fryer?

Using the air fryer to reheat dinner rolls is a quick and easy way to get those delightful little nuggets warmed up and ready to eat in a matter of minutes. Here’s how to do it.

Steps

  1. Preheat your air fryer: Preheating your air fryer is essential for a successful reheat. Set your air fryer to 350°F (177°C) and let it warm up for 2-3 minutes.
  2. Place the dinner rolls in the basket: Once preheated, carefully place your dinner rolls into the air fryer basket.
  3. Air fry for a few minutes: Set the timer for 2-4 minutes and allow the dinner rolls to heat up. You can check half-way to see if they’re done.
  4. Enjoy: Once the dinner rolls are heated through, carefully take them out of the air fry

Pros: Quick and will produce that subtle crunch on the outside.

Cons: The dinner rolls can dry out or burn if they’re left in the air fryer too long.

The microwave is the quickest option to use when warming up your dinner rolls.

However, if you leave them in the microwave too long, they can become soggy.

Steps:

  • Place dinner rolls on a microwavable plate
  • Cover rolls with a damp paper towel
  • Nuke rolls for about 10-15 seconds
  • Check to see if they have warmed up enough, if not zap them for another 5 seconds. (You do not want them to get steaming hot, as they will become tough and chewy as they cool).
  • Take out and enjoy

Pros: Quick.

Cons: If warmed up too long, can be mushy/soggy.

How to Reheat Dinner Rolls Using The Slow Cooker Method?

If you have a slow cooker, you can always use it to warm up your dinner rolls.

This method is perfect if you are having a party/get-together and want the rolls to be perfectly warm, as you are ready to serve dinner.

Steps:

  • Take a clean kitchen towel and dampen it with water. Place inside the slow cooker.
  • Place the dinner rolls in the slow cooker, using the kitchen cloth as the base.
  • Get a second damp kitchen towel and cover the top of the slow cooker.
  • Heat the rolls on the low setting for about 30 minutes.
  • Once heated, you can turn the slow cooker to the warm setting until you are ready for the rolls.

Pros: Will have the rolls warm and fluffy. Can have the rolls warming till you are ready for them.

Cons: Not a quick method if you need the dinner rolls warmed up quickly.
