How to remove speed limiter on Dodge Charger

I have a 2008 SXT, with JBA headers, Magnaflow headers back dual exhaust, JET stage 1 computer chip, rear spolier, SRT 8 hood and front fascia and 245/45/20 front & 255/45/20 rear tires. I opened her up on I 75 in Tampa, Fl. on 12/25. At 130 mph, I noticed that the car began cutting off the fuel to the injectors to limit me at 130 mph. The tachometer was only touching 5000 rpm, so I'm sure I could have gone at least 150 mph. Is there a way to remove the speed limiter. Can this be done by the dealer. I was very impressed how it handled the turns at that speed, but was very disappointed when I hit 130 mph. Any suggestions???

I have also hit a wall as far as engine modifications to boost hp & torque. Any suggestions on how to boot the hp & torque. I am waiting for a super/turbocharger to become available, but until then I am trying other add ons without rebuilding the engine. I am already running on 93 octane.

Getting proper tuning will help increase your hp and torque.

Predator tuner. They have a supercharger kit for the 3.5 out already a few members have them.

quickly remove the JET chip ... inspect it ... turn it over, inspect it ......... and then toss it as far away as possible. Then go out and purchase the predator and your limit issue will be resolved. After that you may want to get some tires rated for the kinds of silly speed you want to attempt.

The speed limiter on the Charger is in relation to the speed rating for your tires. If you're racing on the streets :slap: If you're taking it to the race track then you should definitely get some better tires. Stock ones are only rated so high.

X2 - ixnay on the jet-chip! Yank that out and you should pick up 10-20 HP right there! Then go get the Diablo Predator- I love mine! :grin:

Thank you to all for the suggestions. The tires and wheels I have on the car are not factory, and the tires are H rated (>130 mph). As far as street racing, this was a one time event with no one on the highway. Normally, I drive within 10 - 15 mph of the speed limits, but I was just curious as to how fast the car would actually with the modifications made. I am definately going to look into the super charger mentioned in one of the replies as well as the Predator chip. Thanks for all of the suggestions.

The Predator is actually a hand held tuner, not a chip. There are many threads about it. Well worth the money.

With the DiabloSport tuner, you can increase the 170mph speed limiter to 190 mph. Not to mention you will get more hp than the JetChip.

whats going on guys i have an o7 charger sxt basic you know well i have the same problem but i havent really done anyting to my car just got 22's but i was on I-4 and i slammed on the gas and my car was topping out at 115 is there any other way then buying a chip or tunes to take the governor off

I havent had my car wide open flat out, but 115 sounds a little slow. Is the car limited to 115?

With the Preditor Its default is 170, and max is 190.

For most ... 115 is the limit. That is about 70 k/hr faster than the highways here.
