Start by soaking your curls with water or apply your curly hair mousse after you step out of the shower. For the best results you can use a hair mousse on damp hair and after that use a blow dryer with a diffuser attachment to blow dry and style your curls. Even better is to towel dry your curls. That’s why it’s mainly used by people with wavy hair, also called wavies. But it also is an ideal hair product for curlies who don’t want to spend a lot of time on their hair. Mousse creates a slight cast, so your curls will dry faster than with gel. Using mousse for different wavy and curly hair typesYou can use a mousse on curly or wavy hair. But there a few differences for example the hair texture. We will explain what to use for yourhair to achieve the best natural curls you can get. It doesn’t matter if your hair is curly, straight or coily. Even those with fine hair can benefit with a mousse. It can add extra volume to less naturally voluminous strands. A hair mousse can be an alternative to heavier hair sprays. Mousse is also a great product for those with natural hair, because it helps to define natural curls. Curl type 2: wavy hairIf you have curl type 2 wavy curls, we recommend to use mousse as a styling product in your Curly Girl routine. Many Curly Girls use gel, but for Wavy Girls this is often too heavy. Therefore, we prefer styling mousse. After you rinsed out, bend over, so your hair is flipped upside-down. For best results, pair mousse with a leave-in conditioner to soaked hair, followed by mousse as a styler. Divide this over your hair using the praying hands method, and start scrunching. Stand up straight, flipping your hair back to normal in the process, and let your hair air dry. When your hair is dry, you have a cast and it’s time to scrunch out the crunch! This involves scrunching your hair again, but now you’re breaking the cast. This creates soft curls with a lot of definition. Curl type 1: straight, tin or flat hairIf your hair is naturally tin, flat or do you even have straight hair you can still benefit from a hair mousse. Get a hair mousse that works perfectly for your hair. Apply hair mousse to wet hair and then you can carefully curl your hair with an curling iron to avoid burning strands. Don’t forget to use a heat damage prevent spray before using a curling iron! The mousse will give you an extra body to your locks. After curling your strands dry wet hair with a cotton towel until it is slightly damped. Use a cotton towel or cotton t-shirt instead of a regular towel. A regular towel can damage your hair when using to dry your hair. Gently squeeze out excess water as you do so. If you are in a hurry you can also use a hair dryer. Curl type 3/4: thick or coarse hairInstead of spritzing and spraying heaviy with styling producfts, just simply try applying a few pumpos of hair mousse to light soaked strangs. It helps to add hold without your hair getting to heavy. If you use the right method the hair mousse product should look and feel like it didn’t cost you any time to fix your curls! But still looking fabulous! Also read: Wavy Girl Method: the routine for wavy hair Using mousse gel with the Mousse TechniqueAnother way to use mousse, is with the mousse gel mousse technique.
