When a large box with a handwritten note from Vivienne Westwood arrives on Carrie Bradshaw’s doorstep and prompts a collective swoon from a packed house, then you know the film’s hit its target audience.

Parker is the pivot for this fabulous, fun frolic in which laughter and tears are shared through thick and thin, but always with glamour and style.

The New York Times

I wish Ms. Parker had let that bee in her bonnet go silent, because the movie that she and Mr. King have come up with is the pits, a vulgar, shrill, deeply shallow -- and, at 2 hours and 22 turgid minutes, overlong -- addendum to a show that had, over the years, evolved and expanded in surprising ways.

Even if it feels like a celebration of what was, rather than the beginning of something new, this trip down memory lane sure is a heck of a lot of frock-filled fun. And one that's strictly for the girls.

If there was ever a film the term "chick flick" could be applied to without it sounding derogatory, then this big screen version of Sex and the City is it. This is the perfect film for a girls' night out, it will make you laugh, make you cry, and make you feel very unglamorous.

Two and a half hours of shoes, labels, wedding dresses, girl-talk, boy-talk, break-ups, make-ups, and everything we've come to know and love about this pop culture phenomenon.

Unfortunately, where episodes of the series used to take their cue from a question posed by one of Carrie's columns, writer-director Michael Patrick King never finds that focus, and Sex and the City loses its tart edge in the process.

If you are immune to the charms of Carrie and co., this will do little to convert you. Still, it has more than enough sass, style and sentiment to keep the faithful satisfied. Add a star if you're a fan.

And just like that … we miss the old show! - by

As the season changes Down Under, you might be finding yourself more inclined to stay inside with a blanket, some chocolate, and an old favourite TV show.

WATCH: And Just Like That | Official Trailer

While we’re loving everything streaming has to offer in 2022, there’s nothing better than the soothing predictability of a show you’ve already watched – probably multiple times, that brings back all the good feelings from when you first saw it years ago.

For many women in their thirties and forties, that show is Sex and the City, the HBO show that kept us company in our single years, and made us feel like we were a part of the close friendship shared between Carrie, Charlotte, Samantha, and Miranda.

Luckily, you can still catch all the episodes of the original series on BINGE if you live in Australia!

Why should I watch Sex and the City?

For the uninitiated, who might be coming to SATC for the first time ever, there’s a multitude of reasons you’ll love this show.

It was popular in the 1990s for a reason – it’s funny, it’s entertaining, and it celebrates both female friendships and female sexuality.

New York writer Carrie Bradshaw, played by Sarah Jessica Parker, narrates the show through the lens of a weekly column, which she uses to tell her own experiences with sex and dating, as well as that of her closest friends – lawyer Miranda Hobbes, publicist Samantha Jones, and art dealer Charlotte York.

Each week, a different problem is unpacked and explored, with overarching storylines keeping us riveted each week – mainly, Carrie’s on-and-off relationship with Mr. Big.

While the show was progressive for its time in the ‘90s, some have gone on to criticise the series for being problematic, but ultimately, we’re not here to judge. Ultimately, it’s a light-hearted and funny show about the awkwardness of being single in your 30s when you don’t want to be.

What about And Just Like That?

And Just Like That is the rebooted version of SATC, which follows Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte in their 50s, where they still share an incredibly close bond.

A lot of people had a lot of things to say about it, and whether it held up to the original six-season run. Our only criticism of the show is that it doesn’t give the nostalgia factor we’re after when we settle in for a few eps of SATC, but good news – you can watch them both in the same place!
