How we know what we know fiu

Has anyone taken that class? How is it like? what do you learn? Is it fun? I'm looking for a class to satisfy the humanities group and that one sounds interesting, but I do not have much info about it. If you have any recommendations about any other class or about this one let me know! Thanks.

How we know what we know fiu

I took that class one semester. It’s honestly pretty easy it’s mainly just a writing class that centers around world news. It was a class of about 100 people so all the quizzes were with an iclicker and the questions were easy. There’s a lot of readings involved but I never read any and still manage to pass with an A. There are some group assignments but they are also simple. I think right there’s only one professor who teaches that class and he’s really cool. He’s super tall and has a long gray ponytail I can’t remember his name but you’ll have a lot of fun in that class. It’s a plus if the librarian is still teaching the class with him those two together are really funny.

Took it , fun class, you will need an iclicker, when I took it we did a final report project in group using the movie ghost in the shell (the original anime one), and the class centers about writing and watching videos such as one where innocent people got killed by the US military.

Vice President Kamala Harris visited Modesto Maidique Campus on Aug. 1 to announce $1 billion in federal funding for climate resilient infrastructure addressing flooding and extreme heat.

Through the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities Program, $50 million will go towards protecting low-elevation neighborhoods in the Miami area from sea level rise and storm surge.

“For years, we debated the potential impact that climate change could have on our communities, on our country and our world. And today, we know the impact,” said Harris in a speech at the Graham Center Ballrooms.

“Just watch the evening news and you can see that the time for debate is long past. Climate change has become a climate crisis.”

BRIC is a federal program that provides funding for local governments to build climate-resilient infrastructure. The announced $1 billion will fund new projects in 343 cities and counties around the U.S.  such as new underground water storage in Kern County, California, and upgrading the electrical grid of Austin, Texas to endure higher temperatures, according to Harris.

“We know that we cannot completely prevent the occurrences of these large natural disasters, but we can prepare for them,” said FIU Disaster Management alumna Yendy Gonzalez. “It is industry-standard that for every dollar invested in mitigative actions, it includes on average six dollars of cost savings and the subsequent response and recovery”

For Gonzalez, a retired firefighter and first responder at the Surfside building collapse, disaster mitigation not only translates in economic terms but in “life saved, suffering ended and the communities that we preserve.”

According to Todd Crowl, Director of FIU’s Institute of Environment, this funding comes at a critical time for South Florida. “Coastal ecosystems represent our health, wealth, and well-being,” said Crowl.

“We’re getting bigger and bigger rain events. We just had a 100-year flood a month ago. Soon, those are not going to happen every 100 years, they’re going to happen every five years,” said  Crowl.

“And when a place like South Florida floods the water goes straight to the bay. And so our bays are getting worryingly polluted.”

How Long Do I Wait for My Request to be Filled?

Getting articles and books from other libraries depends upon how fast the staff at those libraries work.

Requests are processed to libraries in less than 2 business days, Monday's through Friday's, after receipt by the FIU Libraries ILLiad Staff. Many times we receive more than 300 requests per day.

After receiving the material from the lending library, we process it and make it available to you within about 1 business day. The time bandit is the other libraries and how fast they work to fill your request. Some delays are caused by staff needing to do extensive citation verification, especially for incomplete citations or hard-to-locate materials.

We are then dependent upon other libraries moving quickly to fill your request. This step can take an average of 10 business days -- or more, if the first round of ordering from other libraries is unsuccessful. We'd then need to resubmit your request to another set of libraries. After two unsuccessful rounds, we'll notify you that we were unable to find a library willing or able to lend the material. If you wish for us to continue requesting indefinitely, we'll gladly do this.

Bottom line -- we know you need the material you are requesting (otherwise you wouldn't have requested it), and we work hard to fill every request as quickly as possible. If we make a mistake, please tell us.
