This was Really Something Special

Verified purchase

This movie spoke to me on many levels. My faith in God, my difficult relationship with my father (though not as much) and my passion as a songwriter. This movie inspired me and has helped me grow in my journey as a musician in several moments and now, more so than ever, I can't wait to share my story. Thank you for sharing yours!

There are no words to describe how beautiful a movie this is. It is not as predictable as I thought and the acting is EXCELLENT! To capture the FEELING of someone else in this kind of pain is only something you have to experience. I was holding back the tears all throughout the movie. Thank you for inspiring someone in need, lol, that takes in ALL of us. Thank you.

Real Hope overcomes real messiness

Words like inspirational and motivational are often overused cliches, but "I can only Imagine" was all of that and so much more. The story of Bart Millard and the hit song that launched his band "Mercy Me" into the limelight was all about relationship redemption on both human and divine levels. This is a must see film.

Sort of on the fence about it given the ending with Trump and Pence

For the song to be sung to the Trump administration probably to sell more records and garner the "Christian" vote did not go over well regarding the "hypocritical nature" of the current administration's hate track record vs"CHRIST's SACRED MESSAGE" Retracted a star for mocking that which should remain Sacred.
Christ died for LOVE. He was tortured to death for a new message of Tolerance, Mercy and Compassion.
Ours is a materialistic World where more consumption makes us mean to feed our want machine...repackaged as Christian values now? It is not good enough to say "Well, that is just the way it is." Christians in this world but not of it were put to death in the colosseum for Roman entertainment. They changed others through their sacrifice.
Christ overturned the money changers table when they used money as a way to sell that which is sacred.
Pence crucifies the LGBT and minority community in a way that has nothing to do with Christ's Message.
Fear, hate, confusion... Christ would be nailed to the cross all over again today and a lot of "Christians" would want to drive that first nail. Christ was "different" with a "new testament" People fear what they don't understand.
Pass me a piece of that "Peace That Passes Understanding." Can it be bought depending on which Party I join?
The power that is Jesus Christ is not to be sold as a political tool to an administration that does not practice the message of The Christ.
Party affiliation sunk the Russians. Let it not become American history as well.
He's a good singer, with a good story, but he used it unwisely at the end. With great Power comes great Responsibility.
A critic from "The Guardian" a left wing atheist claimed he was almost swayed until he saw the song sung before the current administration. Maybe he was lying...but what if he wasn't? The world is waking up to hypocrisy. So are our children. We are leaving them this mess.
The only 2nd coming of Christ we are gonna get is really knowing Him. We can feel Him in those horrific moments of pain IF we are authentic but living his message can only happen if we are genuine. Love. Fairness. Tolerance.
Knowing Christ, really connecting to "Be Still and Know That I Am God." is not a religion.
The ending deterred those "lost" who might have otherwise checked out the "New Testament" when they need solace...but because they don't "fit in" they feel they don't belong. There is a very narrow margin of "fitting in" according to Trump and Pence. Christ accepted EVERYONE who was TRUE.
Depending on where you live in the U.S. it can be the "in thing" to be a Christian and falsely believe you are under his Grace just because you agree with everyone else. It feels good to be included but it doesn't mean you know Christ.
The Grace of Jesus helped some black slaves begin to sing in freedom as they plowed the fields of white masters. They kept singing freedom right up until MLK. That sort of Comfort isn't for sale. It shouldn't be used in Politics. Period. That sort of Grace doesn't need pushing or expanding in the name of spreading religion. Religion is man made with political and economical considerations. That isn't what will comfort you when world's crash and you realize you have 6 weeks to live. It is something Else and it is far greater than a belief in religion.
When you reflect Christ you may stand alone as did John McCain when he stood up against his own party to do what was right. He was dying. He knew what having health care felt like. He also considered what it would have felt like without it. McCain stood up against torture. He lived through it serving our country and he was against it. He died a martyr but an American hero. He wasn't perfect. Who among us is? McCain died like a Christian. Trump scorned him.
Christopher Hitchens professed to be an atheist yet he read from 1st Corinthians 13 during his father's funeral. That is more powerful than a president, political party, religion, color, or LGBT issue. The song was inspired by something more sacred than anything which man can soil. All the more sad it ended up being extoled as a political tool to buy votes by an administration which does not practice the New Testament message written in Red Letters. WWJD.
