level 1

Jedi philosophy makes no sense, there are as damaging and arrogant as any other institution

level 2

Maybe that was the point of the prequels. To show that the Jedi organization wasn't so peachy (and that the Republic fell because it was easily manipulated into it).

And then the sequels show how the new Republic and new Jedi order fell into a lot of the same traps that the old ones did and the main characters realized it too late, and Luke went soul searching to figure out something better. That something better being Rey.

And then Rise of Skywalker happened and literally all that was pointless.

level 2

Exactly. Having absolutely no connections in order to avoid emotional connection which would absolutely no doubt make you go to the dark side. Oh and let's take toddlers from their parents and train them to kill!

level 2

Tbf I'm fairly sure that's not how the jedi were meant to be. The jedi of the prequels were controlled by their fear of the dark side, taking durastic measures to try to ensure they never return. I dont think the jedi of the old republic were like that at all if I remember

level 1

The takeaway here is how poor the dialog was in the prequels.

level 2

Exactly. I never understand people reading into this line. It's self evident that it's just a consequence of George Lucas being terrible at writing dialogue.

level 1

Yep. The whole point of the Jedi order was that they were a mystical religious bureaucracy built around philosophies to those found in East Asian religions, and like any old bureaucracy they collapsed under the weight of their own political machinations, hypocrisy, and craving for control when pushed by an external force.

level 1

Every time I watch the Star Wars saga I get more criticisms for Jedi philosophy. At the end of the day, it sure looks like religious extremism

level 1

Saying "Only Siths" is an absolute. Obi-wan is Plaugis confirmed.

level 1

Only a sith deals in absolutes.

Are you sure?

Absol- ahhhhhh almost got me lmao!

level 1

Yes, Those are our movies. And they got it wrong.

We have to be better than them.

And the crazy thing is that when you are, you are more powerful.

level 1

I resonate with this type of thinking in a big way- we just don't know enough about ourselves, others, or the world around us to be thinking in absolutes. A big believer in radical open mindedness. This doesn't mean we can't have opinions, we should. But it's imperative we never lose site of that fact. It's just an opinion, not a general rule everyone else needs to abide by.

level 1

I relate star wars to Taoism all the time. Sometimes studying the jedi is great for wisdom.

level 1

Honestly I have no idea if this was meant to be ironic or if the writer didn't realize what he wrote. If the irony is deliberate there's a beautiful Yin-Yang relationship between the Jedi and the Sith. The seed of the one in the other. The original trilogy drew inspiration from Eastern traditions but the prequels went more Judaeo-Christian so I don't know.

What does Obi

Obi-Wan Kenobi : [realizing that Anakin is consumed by evil and there's no reasoning with him anymore] Only a Sith deals in absolutes. Obi-Wan Kenobi : I will do what I must. Anakin Skywalker : You will try.

What does Anakin say to Obi

Anakin Skywalker: Don't lecture me, Obi-Wan! I see through the lies of the Jedi. I do not fear the dark side as you do. I have brought peace, freedom, justice, and security to my new Empire!

Are you here to destroy me Obi

The fight in Kenobi is full of callbacks to Anakin and Obi-Wan's past. Vader asks Kenobi, "Have you come to destroy me, Obi-Wan?" To which the Jedi replies, "I will do what I must," before igniting his saber. If that line sounds familiar to you, it should.
