Dora and Friends: Into the City! (also simply known as Dora and Friends) is an American educational children's flash animated television series. A sequel to the original Dora the Explorer series, this series premiered on Nickelodeon on August 18, 2014, and ended on February 5, 2017, in the United States, followed by its Canadian premiere on September 6, 2014, on Treehouse TV.

Plot[change | change source]

The series features Dora as a 10-year-old girl[1] and attends school and lives in the city of Playa Verde, California. She has five friends: Kate (who loves art), Emma (who loves music), Alana (who loves sports and animals), Naiya (who is smart and enjoys reading), and Pablo (who enjoys playing soccer). Together, Dora and her friends work together and go on adventures while discovering the secrets of their city. Dora has a magical charm bracelet that helps her get through objects in the way and a smartphone, complete with an app version of the previous series' map to aid her.

Dora and Friends: Into the City!is the second spin-off of Dora the Explorer.

In 2013, Nickelodeon announced that it would produce a spin-off to Dora the Explorer titled Dora and Friends: Into the City! The series stars Dora, now a 10-years-old, who goes on city adventures with a group of five new friends. The series has been picked up for 20 episodes and had its primetime premiere on Nickelodeon on August 18, 2014.

The "new friends" as well as Dora's tween look was introduced in 2009. The characters include Kate, Naiya, Alana, Emma, and Pablo alongside the preteen Dora.

Plot

In this series, Dora, now 10-years-old, goes to school and she lives in Playa Verde, which is a city. Together with the explorer girls and Pablo, Dora and friends work together and go on adventures while discovering the secrets of their city. Dora has a magical charm bracelet and a smartphone, complete with an app version of Map (voiced by Marc Weiner), to aid her. Kate is a girly girl who is fond of theater, while Emma loves music. Alana is a tomboy (just like Dora at times) but loves animals, Naiya is smart and loves to read and Pablo loves playing soccer. The characters are all bilingual and speak Spanish in addition to English. However, the Spanish curriculum of this series has been expanded to using simple phrases and commands as opposed to solely the single Spanish words used in the previous series.

Trivia

  • In almost every promotional art, Dora wears a headband, but in the animation, she does not and she now has eyebrows.
  • The Blue Cursor is never used or featured in this show.
  • Boots now appears as a supporting character instead of a main protagonist.
  • Backpack and Map do not appear in Season 1 of this spin-off, but they appear in season 2 once again to rejoin Dora Márquez and her friends on quests and adventures.
  • Abuela appears older than her classic counterpart.
  • This is the first series to have Backpack redesigned from her purple original counterpart to a new pink-stitched backpack and attached with a new flower named Bud.
  • Swiper now appears as a central antagonist.
