Is it worth upgrading from a Braun Series 7 to 9?

Braun Series 7 790cc

The Braun Series 7 790cc is a classic. It was launched in 2010 and is part of the Series 7 shavers that were considered a breakthrough due to their smart technology. The Braun Series 7 790cc has been one of the best-sellers among the models in Series 7.

It comes with a convenient three shaving modes that you can choose from according to your preferences: extra sensitive, normal, and intensive. These modes are perfect for those who want only one device for their shaving needs.

The smart technology it uses (Intelligent Sonic technology) also makes it one of the safest shavers out there. This tech allows the shaver to adjust its 10,000vpm power when it senses resistance. It also has an ActiveLift trimmer that adjusts to the contours of your face and picks up hair that no other shavers can.

Overall, the Series 7 790cc is a good way to start your smart shavers experience. It is safe, smart, cordless and affordable and it is also 100% waterproof which allows you to wash it after use! Its Clean and Charge system also allows you to let the shaver clean itself.

The Braun Series 9 9290cc belongs to a relatively new series released by the company back in 2015 (with new releases in 2019).

The Series 9, in general, came in with changes and improvements to the Series 7. The Series 9 9290cc is a class of its own. It is designed for those with sensitive skin and is surprisingly light given its features and performance.

This model has 5 shaving elements which include 4 cutting elements and 1 SkinGuard to make sure that the shaver cuts smoothly while keeping it safe for users. Its 2 specialized trimmers include a titanium coating which enhances its ability to smoothly capture tricky hairs in one shave.

It is also designed for close contact with your skin without the rash, irritation, and cuts that you can get from other devices. Its SyncroSonic technology allows the device to efficiently capture hair—even the densest ones—and adjusts the level of power it needs to cut hair.

Overall, the Series 9 9290cc is a good way to start your smart and safe shaving experience.

Let’s go over a few key comparison points between the Series 7 790cc and the Series 9 9290cc. If you still can’t decide between the two, let this be the tie-breaker!

  • Shaving Elements

One stark difference between the Series 7 790cc and Series 9 9290cc is the number of shaving elements the shavers have. The 790cc has only four elements while the 9290cc has five. While both have 1 SkinGuard each, the 790cc has three cutting elements only while the 9290cc has four.

The difference in number translates to the difference in the number of hair removed in one shave. This creates a different level of experience for users of the 790cc and 9290cc.

  • Contour Adaptation

When it comes to sensitivity, both models outclass other brands on the market. But the difference lies in the number of directions the head of the shaver can move to especially when you are shaving areas that are hard to reach.

The 790cc can only pivot to only eight directions with its 8-D Contour Adaptation while the 9290cc can move up to ten directions with its 10-D Contour Adaptation feature.

  • SyncroSonic Technology

This is also what separates 790cc from the 9290cc. While it sounds good to have options and modes to choose from, a lot of users found no significant benefit from the modes the 790cc offers.

Instead, users found the 9290cc’s SyncroSonic technology more useful as it automatically adjusts the shaver’s power according to the density of your beard.

Series 7 760cc vs Series 9 9293s

Here, we’re going to compare the Series 7 760cc and the Series 9 9293s. In this case, the newer model 9 is actually less expensive than the older model 7—let’s find out why!

Is it worth upgrading from a Braun Series 7 to 9?

Braun Series 7 760cc

The Braun Series 7 760cc joins the list of Series 7 products that changed the game when it comes to shavers. It is smart, safe yet powerful and designed for maximum efficiency—ensuring that hard to reach hair will be removed in one shave. This is all made possible by its ActiveLift trimmer and up to 10,000 vibrations per minute power.

The 760cc model, in particular, is perfect for those who want to start using smart shaving technology. It is affordable compared to other smart shavers (it is cheaper compared to the 790cc) and it also doesn’t require rigid maintenance to keep it clean. It also has a 2-LED Display compared to the Series 5 shavers.

The Series 7 760cc also has the patented Intelligent Sonic technology which allows the shaver to adjust its power according to the density of hair it detects. Its OptiFoil feature allows it to cut hair as short as 0.05mm while keeping it safe for your skin. This is a useful feature especially for those who get frequent cuts from regular shavers.

Overall, the Braun Series 7 760cc is one of the best smart shavers out there on the market given its price point. Its Series 7 features—ActiveLift, Intelligent Sonic tech, and OptiFoil—allows it to outcompete other brands in its class.

Braun Series 9 9293s

The Braun Series 9 9293s is one powerful device that can do up to 40,000 cross-cutting actions per minute. Its smart Sonic and AutoSense technology allows it to efficiently cut and detect the density of the hair.

The 9293s also has 4 cutting elements + 1 SkinGuard that provides maximum cutting power while preventing skin discomfort, rash, and irritation. Its 10-D Contour adaptation design allows the head of the shaver to pivot to up to 10 directions to flexibly adjust to the shape of your face and efficiently shave areas that are hard to reach.

Its Wet and Dry Shave feature also allows you to use foam or gel on the shaver and even makes it safe for you to shave while having a shower! It is cordless and portable while the shaving time, just like the other Series 7 and Series 9 models, can last up to 50 minutes.

The 9293s comes with a charging stand that allows you to fully charge it in just an hour. It also has a smart-looking LED display to keep you on track of your battery usage.

Overall, what makes this product unique is its MultiHeadLock function that gives you an option to lock its 5 foils into an angle where you can reach sensitive and hard-to-reach areas.

Let’s go over a few key comparison points between the Series 7 760cc and the Series 9 9293s. If you still can’t decide between the two, let this be the tie-breaker!

  • Clean And Charge Station

Models that end with “cc” indicate that it has a clean and charge station that you can use to properly clean the shaver. It is convenient to use, too! All you need to do is put the shaver in the station and its 5-action, alcohol-based cleaning system will automatically take care of it.

The Braun Series 7 760cc has a clean and charge station while the Series 9 9293s does not.

  • Shaving Elements

Just like the other Series 7 models, the 760cc only has three cutting elements + 1 SkinGuard compared to the 9293s’s four + 1. This gives Series 9 models like the 9293s an upper hand in terms of efficiency in cutting, especially in areas that are hard to reach.

This is why users can attest to the difference in the quality of experience that both models provide.

  • Contour Adaptation

The head of the shaver of the Series 7 760cc is fully flexible with its MicroMotion and MacroMotion technology. But it is not as flexible and adaptive as the 10-D feature that 9293s has which allows its shaver’s head to pivot up to 10 directions to adapt to the contour of anyone’s face.

Series 7 7893s vs Series 9 9095cc

Here, we’re going to compare the Series 7 7893s and the Series 9 9095cc. Although these shavers look similar, they actually couldn’t be more different! Read on to find out the important differences.

Is it worth upgrading from a Braun Series 7 to 9?

Braun Series 7 7893s

The Braun Series 7 7893s is one of the most intuitively-designed Series 7 models released by the company. It’s sleek, smart, and light-weight, making it one of the go-to shavers on the market. The Series 7 7893s is 100% waterproof which means you can use it along with other products for shaving like foam, gel, or shaving shampoo.

It also has an intelligent sonic technology that allows it to produce up to 10,000 micro-vibrations whenever needed, detecting the denseness of hair and adjusting its power when necessary to efficiently cut through the various types of hair. What’s more, the 7893s has an additional trimmer you can use for sensitive areas like mustaches, etc.

The 7893s is part of the updated Series 7 models which means it has additional features and adjustments to optimize its performance. It has four cutting elements which include the ActiveLift, SkinGuard, Optifoil, and Trimmer Protective with each element having a unique function for your safe and efficient cutting action.

Overall, the 7893s is one of the best Series 7 models on the market. It is cheaper compared to the latest Series 7 models yet it still has some of the best features that Series 7 models have.

Braun Series 9 9095cc

The Braun Series 9 9095cc is arguably the best Series 9 model yet. It is a definite upgrade to the previous models. The 9095cc’s SyncoSonic Technology allows it to shave with precision and comfort. Note that not all brands and models can do this.

This is because to shave with precision means the shaver must have sharp blades that can reach and cut even the smallest hair possible. This just increases the risk of shaving the skin which is sensitive (especially your facial skin). 9095cc makes sure that small hair can be cut in one shave without irritating your skin.

This model has HyperLift Technology, which is an improvement to the ActiveLift Technology that previous models have. This time, the 9095cc is designed to reach extremely sensitive areas like your neck and jawline. It can also produce up to 40,000 micro-vibrations compared to the 10,000 micro-vibrations that previous models do.

Overall, the 9095cc remains at the top of the leaderboard for shavers. It is built for those who want the best of the best and remains as a powerful contender in the shaver industry.

Let’s go over a few key comparison points between the Braun Series 7 7893s and the Braun Series 9 9095cc. If you still can’t decide between the two, let this be the tie-breaker!

  • Clean And Charge Station

The Series 9 9095cc has the world’s only clean and charge station that allows the device to be charged, cleaned, lubricated, and dried (plus other cleaning programs) in just one touch of a button. This is the clear advantage that 9095cc has over the Series 7 7893s.

  • 10,000 vs 40,000 Cross-Cutting Action

The Series 7 7893s only has 10,000 cross-cutting actions compared to the 40,000 actions the Series 9 9095cc has. This makes the 9095cc more powerful and efficient to use. The quality of experience can also be noticed when using and comparing the 7893s and 9095cc models.

  • Five-Speed Setting

The Series 7 7893s has a five-speed setting available compared to the latest Series 9 9095cc. These modes allow you to adjust the speed and power manually. However, a lot of people argue that the reason why this was removed in the latest models was that they found it unnecessary.

In the latest models, its smart SyncroSonic technology allows the shaver to automatically adjust its power according to the density of the hair it is cutting. This means that in sensitive areas with thinner hair, the shaver automatically changes its power to ensure a safe cutting action. No manual adjustments needed.

Series 7 799cc vs Series 9 9295cc

Here, we’re going to compare the Series 7 799c and the Series 9 9295cc. These shavers are the black sheep of their respective families. Read on to find out what makes them unique.

Is it worth upgrading from a Braun Series 7 to 9?

Braun Series 7 799cc

The Series 7 799c is one of the smartest shavers among the Series 7 models. It is an upgrade to the classic and best-selling 790cc and one of the stark differences between both models is the former’s added wet use feature, which allows users to safely use the product along with gel, water, or shaving cream.

This model can produce up to 10,000 micro-vibrations per minute along with other Series 7 models. This function allows it to capture stray and tricky hair that other devices normally can’t. Its ActiveLift System also allows it to lift lying hair and efficiently cut it, ensuring that no hair is left uncut in one shave.

Just like the other Series 7 models, the 799cc has three personalized modes for you to choose from: Extra Sensitive, Normal, and Intensive. This allows you to choose the power that you think is suitable for the type of hair and skin you are shaving. The names speak for themselves: extra sensitive for sensitive areas and intensive for thicker hair.

Overall, the 799cc is a satisfying improvement to the 790cc. It has a Clean and Charge Station which allows you to clean and dry the shaver in one press of a button.

Braun Series 9 9295cc

What makes the Series 9 9295cc unique is its gold-colored Titanium Nitride-coated middle trimmer. This is built to make the shaver last—it makes sure that it remains sharp and durable as time goes by. It also prevents rust from forming the area which makes the product even better compared to the previous models.

It doesn’t even have to be emphasized that this model looks exponentially better compared to the previous models. It’s sleek, sophisticated, and elegant which makes this product a must-have!

It is also 100% waterproof (with water resistance up to 5m) which allows you to use the product in the shower. It has four cutting elements (compared to previous models’ three) which allow it to efficiently cut any hair type, hair position, and in any area of the face and body. It also has a SkinGuard feature that protects sensitive skin.

Overall, the Braun Series 9 9295cc stands supreme in the shaver market. Not only is it designed and built to efficiently cut hair with its up to 40,000 micro-vibrations feature, but it can also adapt to the contours of any face with its 10-D Flexible Shaving System which allows the shaver’s head to pivot in ten directions for flexibility.

Let’s go over a few key comparison points between the Series 7 799c and the Series 9 9295cc. If you still can’t decide between the two, let this be the tie-breaker!

  • Micro Vibrations And Power

The Series 7 799c’s up to 10,000 micro-vibrations per minute is a feat in and of itself. However, the Series 9 9295cc’s improved power—which takes it to up to 40,000 cross-cutting actions—just elevates the model to a whole new level. This ensures that no hair is left behind uncut.

  • Flexibility And Adaptability

The Series 7 799c’s 8-D Facial Contouring feature pales in comparison to the Series 9 9295cc’s 10-D Pivot System. Eight directions to adapt to your facial contour are enough but ten directions just guarantee maximum flexibility and safety especially when shaving extra sensitive areas!

This makes the Series 9 9295cc even safer to use compared to previous models.

  • ActiveLift vs HyperLift

The Series 7 799c has an ActiveLift cutting element which allows it to lift up lying hair (or awkwardly-positioned hair) and cut it in one shave. This would otherwise take a normal razor or other ordinary shaver several attempts at shaving to cut that weirdly-positioned hair.

With the Series 9 9295cc’s HyperLift system, this mechanism is exponentially improved through research and tests. All Series 9 models have an improved HyperLift system which makes them more efficient compared to Series 7 models.

But overall, why is the Series 9 models superior to the Series 7 models?

Comparing the Features of Series 7 and 9 (Why Series 9 Is Better Than 7?)

Let’s take a step back and do a full comparison of the Series 9 versus the Series 7. The Series 9 is clearly superior, but it comes at a higher price point—so, is it worth it?

  • More Powerful

The Series 9 with their up to 40,000 cross-cutting actions just make them superior compared to the Series 7 (which only has up to 10,000 micro-vibrations). The number of micro-vibrations per minute which differs in both Series (with Series 9 having more) creates a whole different experience for the user. This also ensures that more hair is removed in one shave so you won’t have to shave again and again.

  • HyperLift > ActiveLift

We talked about efficiency again and again but why is this important? Notice that pesky single hair that’s so hard to remove when you shave? The Series 9’s improved HyperLift system makes sure this doesn’t happen to you. It promises to improve your shaving experience by lifting awkwardly positioned hair to cut them easily.

  • More Shaving Elements

Most Series 9 models have four shaving elements, while Series 7 models only have three. This makes the cutting performance different for both series. The Series 9 is also built to adjust to extremely sensitive skin—and in my opinion, that alone makes the Series 9 worth the price! My skin can get quite sensitive around the neck, and the Series 9 has never left me with a rash or redness.

  • 8-D vs 10-D Flexibility

The ability of the shaver to adjust according to the contour of your face is extremely important and it is often underlooked by rival companies. What users want is maximum control over the shaver’s head to ensure that when they shave extremely sensitive areas, they don’t get cut.

This is often compromised. What usually happens is when a shaver is sharp enough to cut those areas, it’s also sharp enough to irritate your skin (or worse, to cut it). And when it’s safe enough to reach those areas, it isn’t sharp enough to cut awkwardly positioned hair. The Series 9 perfectly strikes a balance between these two extremes.

  • No More Modes: Go SyncroSonic!

What makes the Series 9 better is that it removed the speed function (the personalized modes) that was present in Series 7. According to the company (and to a lot of users), the personalized modes proved unnecessary and a little inconvenient especially when it requires the user to stop mid-use.

This was changed when the Series 9 was released without the speed function and was instead replaced with the SyncroSonic Technology which allows the device to automatically adjust its speed and power according to the density of hair it detects. Definitely more convenient!

  • Ergonomics And Design

The change in design is something that I appreciate about Series 9 models compared to the Series 7 ones. While the Series 7 designs weren’t really a problem themselves, I appreciated a sleek and sophisticated looking shaver fit for a gentleman.

The Series 9 models were also a little bigger compared to Series 7, which makes the grip a little better. And even with its added size, the weight remains the same (or there’s no significant change to the weight at all, given its added functions).

The Similarities: Braun Series 9 vs 7

The Series 7 and the Series 9 do have a lot of similarities—they are both made by Braun, after all! Let’s find out what makes this line of shavers so great.

  • Best Cleaning Stations

While there are clear differences between both Series 7 and 9, there are also similarities that unite both Series and uphold the brand. One of these is the cleaning stations that some models of both series have.

Braun’s cleaning and charge stations (with 5-actions) are one of the most useful features that just sets them apart from the competition. This addition makes each shaver convenient to use and easy to maintain.

  • Best For Sensitive Skin

Both Series 7 and 9 are best for users who have sensitive skin. The design and features of the models for both series specifically target people who have problems using ordinary razors and shavers. The 8D or 10D flexibility system itself helps a lot when reaching areas that need a little extra precaution.

Improvements to the products themselves only make it more functional and beneficial to people with sensitive skin.

  • Functionality (Removes Thick Hair Anytime)

Even with the cited differences that set the models under each series apart, both series under the brand are undeniably functional when it comes to removing thick hair. Four cutting elements (or three) just guarantees that dense hair is removed in one sweep of the shaver.

This can also be achieved under the Series 7’s manual speed options or the Series 9’s automatic speed function.

  • Flexibility (Compared To Other Brands)

Despite the difference in the number of directions the shaver’s heads can move to, products under both series arguably have more flexibility compared to other brands. Eight or ten directions are an insane amount of movements that one shaver can do. And it even does it safely!

This is exponentially better compared to regular razors or even ordinary shaver available out there on the market.

  • Durability And Quality Guaranteed

Models of both series are made in Germany. While this is not a guarantee of quality in and of itself, Germany prides itself on manufacturing only the most durable and high-quality products on the market. It has strict quality control regulation which makes it hard for bad products to be exported out of the country.

Both series undergo similar quality control to ensure that users only get the best of the best.

  • Reasonable Price

While models under each series are priced differently (and often according to function), the prices are found to be reasonable and fair under market standards. They are not as expensive as their competitors that offer the same level of quality and experience. And they have also options for those buying cheap.

The prices are also reasonable given the quality of the products offered.

Is An Upgrade Necessary?

A lot of the reviews I’ve read pointed out how they were already satisfied with the level of quality that the Series 7 had. Which makes sense! The Series 7 is durable, extremely functional, and affordable. Most people who own a Series 7 are actually satisfied with their purchase, so is an upgrade is necessary?

I would personally argue: Yes, yes it is! The Series 9 provides a level of comfort that the Series 7 simply lacks. I have very sensitive skin, and electric shavers often leave me irritated and itchy. But the Series 9 is different! It always leaves my skin feeling cared for, and never leaves me sore.

The Series 9 models just cut more efficiently. They also leave a better after-shave feeling, and they’re easier to grip. Although some models are more expensive than the Series 7, the price is definitely worth it.

Conclusion

After all the reviews and comparisons, I have come to the conclusion that the Series 9 will just give you a lot more bang for your buck! The Series 9 models offer a sense of power, precision, and flexibility that the Series 7 doesn’t quite match. The Series 9 9290cc is my personal favorite, and it might actually be my favorite shaver of all time!

That’s not to say that the Series 7 is bad though—quite the contrary! I would argue that the Series 7 is the second-best shaver series of all time, right behind its younger brother. Series 7 shavers are often a lot cheaper than the 9s, and considering the level of performance that they offer, they can be an equally great purchase!

Is it worth upgrading to Braun Series 9?

If you can afford it, the Braun Series 9 Pro is worth the investment. It's easily the most efficient razor I've tried and delivers a shave that's nearly unparalleled when it comes to electric razors.

When Should Braun Series 7 be replaced?

Over 18 months, your Braun shaving cassette cuts over 6,000,000 hairs. Over time, the cutting parts naturally start to wear down. We therefore recommend replacing the shaver head every 18 months, to keep your shave to a few strokes and reset your electric shaver to new.

Can you use Braun Series 9 with shaving cream?

If shaving with a wet face is something you can't live without, many electric shavers like the Braun Series 9 Pro can be used with shaving foam and in the shower.

Do you need cleaning station for Braun Series 9?

How do I clean my shaver? The new Braun Series 9 cc shavers feature the Braun automatic Clean & Charge station, proven to clean more hygienically than tap water.
