BIOSYN HQ — As long as people are willing to pay to watch dinosaurs wreak havoc on the human race, movie execs will continue to make "Jurassic Park" movies.

The sixth installment of the franchise, "Jurassic World: Dominion," is now in theaters, and Dave Clyde has already given his two cents on whether this dino adventure is worth your time. I'm here for a different reason, however. This piece is to let you know what is in the movie so you can decide if it's something you want you or your kids to see.

I have to make mention of this every time: I am not going to tell you if "Dominion" is OK for you or your child. I'm simply here to give you some spoiler-free education on the film's content so you can make that choice for yourself.

With that said, it's time to hold onto your butts and find out if "Jurassic World: Dominion" is OK for your kids.

Sex

The Jurassic movies have been all about people striving to not be a bedtime snack for a hungry dino, and not about love stories. Sure, there was Ellie and Alan and now Owen and Claire, but sex or nudity has never been a focus. "Dominion" stays on that line.

Other than a couple of kisses or a high-cut dress, I can't think of anything sexual in this film. We don't even get the obligatory shirtless shot of the muscle-bound hero. If you want to talk about sex, sexual situations or jokes, this move is on par with a G-rated film. I can't say the other categories are the same.

Language

There is some profanity in "Dominion," which is similar to the other "Jurassic World" movies. The language here is a lot of PG-13 fare, but I never heard the F-word in the nearly two-and-a-half-hour runtime.

Most of the cursing in this film is the type that is heard on non-cable or streaming TV shows, but at a higher level than in PG films. The PG-13 rating is right for the language, and it's on par with what we hear in most Marvel movies.

Movie Review:

Violence

We all knew this one would be high. I mean, it's dinosaurs and humans, so there is bound to be some violence. "Dominion" doesn't shy away.

A lot of people in this film are eaten, dismembered and hunted by these animals. Not much of the carnage is shown on screen, but it's happening all the time. There isn't really any blood in the film that you see, but plenty of screams and crunching noises are heard.

Maybe it's because I haven't seen the other films recently, but I felt like there was more mayhem in this one than in some of the others. It felt like dinosaurs were nonchalantly eating humans on a more regular basis. For example, a random passerby is snatched up and swallowed on more than one occasion. There is a lot of dino dinnertime in this one.

Scary/disturbing

"Dominion" is much like its predecessors in that it has plenty of jump scares and white-knuckle moments. This movie will most likely be frightening for a lot of younger audiences. The violence I already mentioned can also be scary and disturbing, and one scene, in particular, may be too much for some audiences.

Without spoiling anything, there is one death where two different dinosaurs are tearing a man apart while he's still alive and a third comes to finish the job. While you don't see blood, you do see the two dinosaurs actively biting the man's arms and the third goes for his head.

This isn't a horror movie, but it would give some kids nightmares.

Conclusion

With the exception of a scene or two, and more random dino snacking than we're used to, I think "Jurassic World: Dominion" is a lot like the other "Jurassic World" movies. If you or your kids handled those, you should probably be OK with this latest one.

Editor's note: "Jurassic World: Dominion" is officially rated PG-13 for intense sequences of action, some violence and language.

Wondering if ‘Jurassic World Dominion’ is too scary for kids? This spoiler-free review of Jurassic World 3 should help you decide.

Is Jurassic Dominion OK for kids?

My family was counting down to see this Universal Pictures film. Mainly because Ty, now 9, has been a dinosaur-loving kid since he was 3. Even though he’s passed on that love to his now 3-year-old sister, we decided to have her sit this one out. And depending on the age and sensitivity of you kids, you might want to do the same.

Jurassic World Dominion is rated PG-13 for intense sequences of action, some violence and language. There are quite a few swear words, and we’ll get into the intensity and violence in this review.

My Overall Review of Jurassic World Dominion

The action sequences are fun, and on par with some of the best action scenes in the Jurassic Park franchise. If you love dinosaurs you’ll love this. However, much of the film and even the story veers away from these which is a bit disappointing. The dinosaurs are more of a side, supporting characters that happen to be there in this film vs the main characters we’ve known them as in the past.

Is Jurassic Dominion OK for kids?

The plot (which feels hard to find) is very diluted and misshapen. It takes some of the weaker parts of previous movies to build into this one but it doesn’t come together well. As my son says “the talking human parts were boring.” Much because those talking parts had little or nothing to do with dinosaurs.

Jurassic World Dominion: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly

Loved seeing Jeff Goldblum, Sam Neill and Laura Dern back in their classic roles. Some scenes with them together feel a bit cheesy, other parts feel wonderful. We also get introduced to Kayla (DeWanda Wise) who is one of my favorite characters in the movie.

My son loved seeing Owen (Chris Pratt) and Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) back in their roles. I loved seeing where they were and the family dynamic they were pulling together in this film though it feels a little short lived and shallow. But many of my favorite scenes surrounded the “Jurassic Park” and the “Jurassic World” teams interacting together in the third act. How we get there is so weird and convoluted, but I was happy to see it happen.

Is Jurassic Dominion OK for kids?

The fan service and callbacks are subtle enough and enjoyable and depending how much of a fan you are, almost make up for the poor plot.

Though I only rate the movie 2 stars I’d absolutely see it again. There’s just enough jump scares and action, and who knows, maybe next time I’d grasp more of the confusing plot. Speaking of jump scares…

Is Jurassic World Dominion Scary for Kids?

Since dinosaurs aren’t the main plot focus of Jurassic World 3, you kind of never know when they’re going to show up. Unlike other films in this franchise, it’s not as though there’s one big dinosaur predator they’re trying to outrun or escape, but multiple interesting-looking dinosaurs that they happen to run into along their journey to do other things. That said, there are several large, frightening-looking dinosaurs in this film. Including some we’ve never seen before. If you have a mini paleontologist on your hands they may be calling out names of them as you watch. Others might be scared of the big teeth and long claws.

Is Jurassic Dominion OK for kids?

As expected in any Jurassic World film, there are people who get eaten, both on and off camera. Most of them are people without speaking parts. There are several close calls for the characters we know and love including our favorite dinosaur characters. Some kids may find that just as or more disturbing.

Though this is a movie my dinosaur-loving preschooler may watch from home on the small screen at some point, Jurassic World Dominion would be quite scary for her to see on the big screen in a dark, loud theater. Even my son points this out in his review.

Is Jurassic World Dominion scary for kids compared to other Jurassic World movies? My kids think it’s the least scary of the bunch and I might agree. Mainly because dinosaurs eating people isn’t the plot. Still, it has its moments.

Here’s what my kids thought.

Is Jurassic Dominion OK for kids?

Can my 5 year old watch Jurassic World: Dominion?

Jurassic World Dominion is rated PG-13. This means younger kids, especially kids 5 and under, should probably not see this film.

Is Jurassic World: Dominion okay for 8 year olds?

Considering the full PG-13 rating breakdown above, this parent movie reviewer would not recommend Jurassic World Dominion to kids younger than the age of 10-12 years old. I still highly recommend parents prescreening Jurassic World Dominion film for the suspenseful dinosaur thriller scenes and violence for your kids.

Is Jurassic Park OK for 7 year olds?

A classic film... The dinosaurs aren't too scary, but if your child gets scared easily, then you might not want to show them this movie because it has death and violence. Steven Spielberg created a great film in 1993 that still holds up to todays standards. All in all, I think Jurassic Park is okay for ages 8+.

What age can watch Jurassic World: Dominion?

Of course, you know your kids the best to know if the movie is going to be suitable for them. The movie has been given the MMPA age rating of PG-13. This means that it's deemed suitable for children over 13, although under 13s can watch it with parental supervision in the theaters.
