Is MLB going to be on PC?

It’s been a long time since a simulation MLB game has been available for the PC. How long? Since the release of MLB 2K12, there hasn’t been one for those who have opted not to buy a console and instead use a desktop. San Diego Studios’ MLB The Show franchise has been migrated to other consoles over the past two years, but is PC next? Here’s what you need to know about the possibility of MLB The Show 23 on the PC.

Will MLB The Show 23 be released on PC?

As of this writing, we do not know whether MLB The Show 23 will be released for the PC. In fact, there’s a lot we don’t know at this moment about the game. This includes a potential release date for The Show 23.

We should note that Sony and MLB have been moving forward with releasing The Show for new consoles. Prior to 2021, only PlayStation owners had the opportunity to play the simulation baseball franchise. That changed in 2021, as MLB announced that MLB The Show 21 would be released for both old and current-gen Xbox consoles. And in 2022, the Nintendo Switch received a version of The Show.

PC, however, might be a different story. Some sports franchises, like NBA 2K, have been hesitant to release a current-gen version of its games and simply release an old-gen one. EA has opted not to do one at all, as has been the case for well over a decade.

Still, we won’t know until we officially receive word from Sony or MLB. Until then, we wait to see if this will be the year that a simulation baseball game is released on a PC platform for the first time since 2012.

MLB The Show 21 broke barriers for the Sony-developed simulation baseball franchise. Not only did the series jump to the current generation of consoles for the first time, but it also became the first game to be available for the Xbox family of consoles. However, The Show still hasn’t become available on other platforms, including the Nintendo Switch and PC, as of 2021. Will that change for MLB The Show 22? Here’s what we know so far.

On January 31, San Diego Studios released first information regarding MLB The Show 22. SDS announced that Angels superstar Shohei Ohtani would be on the cover for MLB The Show 22, and that the franchise would be launching for old and current-gen Xbox and PlayStation platforms, plus for the very first time, the Nintendo Switch.

However, PC did not luck out in this announcement. SDS confirmed that on release date, MLB The Show 22 will be available on the platforms listed above, and not for the PC. While it is possible that The Show 22 could be released for the PC later on this year, we only know that the game has been confirmed to go live on April 5 for the Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo consoles.

This continues the trend of sports games seemingly neglecting PC, in favor of consoles. Some sports franchises, including the Madden and FIFA series of games, opted not to release the current-generation version for PC in 2021, and instead launched the old-generation edition. And in the case of NHL, EA has opted not to do one at all, as has been the case for over a decade. It appears that this trend will continue with MLB The Show, as well.

Baseball games have been around for quite some time, with different video game franchises competing with each other for the rightful claim to be the best on the market. I’ve played some of them too, and the likes of MVP Baseball, Major League Baseball 2K, and Out of the Park Baseball were just a few big names dominating the scenes throughout the past few decades.

One of the more ‘recent’ franchises that surprised everyone was MLB The Show, first released back in 2006. Ever since its inception, MLB The Show was a PlayStation-exclusive title until San Diego Studio (developer) and Sony Entertainment (publisher) finally decided to branch the franchise to other gaming consoles such as Xbox and Nintendo Switch.

MLB The Show 21

After consistently receiving awesome reviews by both fans and critics alike, MLB The Show was quickly becoming a sports video gaming juggernaut. The latest addition, MLB The Show 22, was accepted favorably by critics, with IGN awarding a 7/10 rating for its next-gen graphics and in-depth Franchise mode.

Sounds like MLB The Show 22 might be the next baseball game for us to install on PC, right? Well, it might not be as straightforward as it sounds.

Can I Play MLB The Show 22 on PC?

Officially, we CANNOT play MLB The Show 22 on PC. This is because both the developer and publisher have decided not to expand the franchise to PC yet, focusing on PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch consoles instead.

The first time MLB The Show became multi-platform – ending its PlayStation exclusivity too – was from MLB The Show 21 last year. Noting that the developers are still new at porting the game to other video game consoles, I understand this decision. After all, we wouldn’t want a half-baked, bug-ridden MLB The Show 22 on PC, would we?

Right now, MLB The Show 22 is only supported on:

  • PlayStation 4PlayStation 5
  • Xbox One
  • Xbox Series X/ S
  • Nintendo Switch

I was disappointed about this, too until I learned that we CAN play MLB The Show 22 on PC by way of a simple exploit that is legitimate and safe.

Not many people seem to know about this, but there are basic requirements that we must follow to make this work. With that said, let’s explore the step-by-step method to play MLB The Show 22 on PC.
