Is NJ Transit running on schedule?

SYSTEM SCHEDULE

Updated May 21, 2021

The COVID-19 response efforts by NJTRANSIT are constantly evolving and being enhanced to remain consistent with federal and state health recommendations to ensure the health and safety of our employees and customers still using the system for essential travel.

  • Federal regulations and Governor Murphy’s Executive Order 165 remain in effect, which:

    • Require all staff & customers to wear face coverings on board all transit vehicles and inside all stations & facilities.
    • Require masks on train platforms & bus stops when distancing is not possible.
    • Prohibit eating & drinking aboard all transit vehicles.

RAIL

NJ TRANSIT is operating full rail service system-wide.

On weekdays, all morning and evening peak-hour trains, those scheduled to arrive at Newark, Hoboken or Penn Station New York between 6am — 10am, OR departing Newark, Hoboken or Penn Station New York between 4pm — 7pm, must have all cars open to maximize distancing onboard to the greatest extent possible.

During off-peak hours and on weekends, conductors are required to have a minimum number of cars open, based on ridership and crew size. During off-peak hours, ridership is lower and train crew sizes are reduced to better align with this lower ridership.

If at any time off-peak train capacity reaches 50% and a car is available but closed, crews are required to open the closed car and make it available to our customers. If the train again reaches 50% capacity and another car is available but closed, conductors are required to open that closed car and make it available to our customers. The 50% capacity rule applies each time that percentage is reached and there are closed cars available to be opened — regardless of crew size.
