The bad news is, the Tundra Hybrid is hardly the most fuel-efficient model in its vehicle segment.

Kiss any hopes of a Tundra with close to 30 MPG combined goodbye. The Tundra Hybrid isn’t necessarily a gas guzzler, but it doesn’t exactly sip fuel either. Its fuel economy is decent at best. According to Car and Driver, the hybrid pickup truck gets 22 miles per gallon combined. Cool?

Luckily for Toyota, there’s a happy byproduct of the inclusion of a hybrid powertrain in the Tundra: a massive power boost. The Tundra’s standard twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V6 engine makes 389 horses. The Tundra Hybrid’s i-FORCE MAX hybrid engine and electric motor system make a whopping 437 horses and 583 lb-ft of torque.

The hybrid powertrain system gives the Tundra an additional 48 horses. That’s plenty of giddyup, so better fuel economy isn’t the only reason to pick the hybrid over the gas-powered Tundra.

The 2022 Toyota Tundra starts at $35,950. It’s significantly more expensive than rivals like the Ford F-150 and Ram 1500.

The latest Tundra comes in seven different trim levels. The Capstone final trim level starts at $74,230. Car and Driver recommends the SR5 second trim level for consumers.
