It feels like anime film adaptations are entering a golden age, and Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is the latest blockbuster success. Those who were lucky enough to get to a cinema have almost all praised the film, which leaves many of us wondering when Jujutsu Kaisen 0 will be released on Crunchyroll.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is a prequel to the original Jujutsu Kaisen TV series, based on creator Gege Akutami’s earlier manga Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School.

The story follows Yuta Okkotsu, a boy haunted by his dead childhood friend, who’s invited to attend ​​Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School.

Will Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Appear on Crunchyroll?

Yes, Jujutsu Kaisen 0 has now arrived on Crunchyroll.

The streaming platform has played a role in its international release in cinemas.

Crunchyroll, along with Funimation which it has now merged with, were in charge of much of the film’s international distribution.

A similar situation happened recently with Demon Slayer’s Mugen Train film. The movie had a hugely successful international domestic and international release before being made available on Funimation and Crunchyroll.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Crunchyroll Release Date

Crunchyroll has confirmed that Jujutsu Kaisen 0 will be arriving on its streaming service on September 21st. It is now available on the streaming service.

Crunchyroll announced the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 release date at their Expo, alongside more movie releases on the platform.

According to the release, Jujutsu Kaisen 0 will be available both subbed and dubbed in English. Although no details regarding regional availability are included, it's expected the majority of regions will have access.

Previously, we predicted that Jujutsu Kaisen 0 will likely arrive in late 2022 or early 2023, so the confirmed release is earlier than expected.

Crunchyroll tends to not give much warning regarding when films will be available on the platform. Sometimes, they can suddenly announce a title is going to be available in a few days, or even on the day in extreme cases.

However, with theatrical films, they have to allow some time for the movie to make as much money from the box office and DVD sales before making it wholly available.

We can draw some estimations for Jujutsu Kaisen 0’s Crunchyroll release based on the schedule they had for Demon Slayer: Mugen Train.

The Demon Slayer film premiered in Japan in October 2020 before being available on DVD in most regions in June 2021. The film was then released on Crunchyroll in October 2021, coinciding with the Mugen Train TV Series’s release.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 premiered in Japan in December 2021, while the DVD is scheduled to be released in September 2022.

It was seen as unlikely that Crunchyroll would release the film on their platform until a few months after the DVD’s release, although not impossible.

The fact that Jujutsu Kaisen 0's DVD and streaming are coming out almost together perhaps is a sign of global anime distribution moving more in line with global expectations set by streamers like Netflix.

The release date of Jujutsu Kaisen Season Two is yet to be confirmed. However, many fans are expecting it to be either Winter 2023 (January) or Spring 2023 (April).

It was easy to envisage Jujutsu Kaisen 0 being released on Crunchyroll just before the second season’s release, similar to Mugen Train. In that case, we expected the film to arrive any time between December 2022 and March 2023.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 hit Japanese movie theaters in 2021 before landing on US screens in March 2022, but you're probably ready to watch the prequel film at home.

Anime fans will have to wait until next year for the new season of the TV series, but the movie makes its North America streaming debut Wednesday on Crunchyroll.

Produced by Mappa Studios and Toho Animation, the film is based on Gege Akutami's manga series and follows Yuta Okkotsu, a young high school student who's cursed. After his friend Rika Orimoto dies, Yuta is haunted by her spirit and grapples with the grief and loneliness. His path leads him to sorcery as a way to control Rika, whose presence often saves him or puts him in precarious situations.   

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 isn't the only film found on Crunchyroll this month. The streaming service also announced the addition of a new movie each Thursday during September. Titles include The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (Sept. 15), Black Butler: Book of the Atlantic (Sept. 15) and High Speed! Free! Starting Days (Sept. 22). Movies starring Haru and Rin from Free! Timeless Medley, including The Bond, The Promise and Road to the World: The Dream, will stream on Sept. 22. Fans can also check out Code Geass films on Sept. 29.
