Lowrider car show los angeles 2022

Lowrider Magazine's Super Show Tour made its triumphant return to Los Angeles County for the first time in 25 years—a move that locals have been demanding for quite some time. As the number of tour stops ramped over the last two years, a SoCal visit seemed inevitable, that is, until Covid came into the picture.

As 2021 closed out, and the pandemic seemed to be letting up slightly, Joe Ray announced via social media that the tour would in fact include a reunion in L.A. with a stop planned for the Long Beach Convention Center. As expected, lowriders jumped at the opportunity to take part in a monumental return to Socal. Fans were so eager to register, in fact, that within just a few hours of opening online registration, the entire venue sold out and a lengthy waiting list was established for those hoping for a chance to take part

As with any large-scale Lowrider event, getting hundreds of rolling works of art situated inside the halls is a daunting task. Security checks must take place, registration notes adhered to, and tiptoeing fully custom vehicles through a sea of other one-off creations in narrow rows without any chance of making contact is never easy. For that reason, Friday and Saturday were designated as all day roll-in times for registered owners to check-in before being directed to their specific parking spots.

During the late morning we took a step outside to grab some photos of the incoming cars and owners that waited patiently for their turn to enter the Long Beach Convention Center. Local authorities and the venue security teams performed their vehicle checks and once cleared, vehicles were directed to ramps to enter the facility. Here are some images captured during the Saturday morning roll-in, with part II, featuring the set up scene inside the venue coming later this week.

At the top of the ramp in front of the main hall sat this lifted Bel Air awaiting entry. The L.A. Super Show hosted dozens of high-end Bel Airs that seemed to take over portions of the show in various styles, heights, and intricate detail.

Long Beach weather offered mid-70s temps with a slight breeze throughout the Saturday roll-in procedures and what better way to enjoy it than from behind the wheel of a spotless Impala convertible?

Precious cargo made its way to the rear parking lot of the Long Beach Convention Center where vehicles were unloaded and prepped for their security checks before being ushered into the halls.

As with most every aspect of lowrider builds, the process from start to finish is almost always a team effort, not only in the buildup, but in the preparation, on-site logistics, crucial detailing, and everything in between.

This '72 AM General, known as "La Buchona" laid frame on the Long Beach black top thanks to a custom air set up.

Rack City Low Bikes in the queue awaiting their set up time. By the end of the weekend, the group would go on to earn a pair of first place awards and a second place nod for their high level two- and three-wheel customs.

As the well devised layout began to fill up, getting incoming vehicles safely through the venue and to their appropriate parking spaces became more and more involved.

With enough patience and some careful maneuvering, the experienced Lowrider staff completed the roll-in process before the doors opened on Sunday to a massive crowd.

The Lowrider lifestyle has always been family oriented but in recent years that sentiment has seen a significant bump.

As the world transitions to electrification, dedicated enthusiasts' groups, like lowriders, are doing their best to maintain these classics and introduce them to a younger generation to hopefully carry the torch.
