Moto G pure vs Moto G Play Reddit

I currently have a moto g 7 play which I will be giving to my mom, so I will be getting a new phone. My budget is around $150 and I was debating between the g play or the g pure. I know the g pure is a newer phone but I like the bigger battery on the play. As long as the phone works like my current g7 play, I'll have no problems ( I don't need anything super powerful). Any suggestions for other phones are welcome too. I'm on T-Mobile btw.

Both my daughter and I got G Pure phones and both phones continually have issues with not sending or receiving texts, shutting off randomly and needing reboots, and sometimes even refusing to dial out even though service shows at full bars. They are both on a premium, unlimited T-Mobile service; we live in different cities so it's not location that's the issue. In the 6 months we've now had them I can safely say that these are the most unreliable phones I've ever had. My husband has a low-cost Samsung phone, same service, same location as me, and has no issues. I've had so many Motos in the past and loved them. It scares me to have my daughter out running around with such an unreliable device, so even though it's on TMobiles 24 month = free phone, it's not worth it, we'll pay these off and dump them for something else. I am kinda shocked, I was a real Moto fan until this.

Thank you all whom have suggested things to try.

So im used to lg phones. With a lg you could EASILY find a button for the "Hidden apps" . Is there a way to check if there is hidden app? Bc i have poked around and still can not find it! 🤬

Those logs are just showing your phone decoding H.264/AVC videos. Notice how most of the logs mention stuff like OMX.MTK.VIDEO.DECODER.AVC, MediaDecoder etc. If you want to see battery usage, go to the phone settings and see if any apps are using too much battery, or just factory reset and see how the phone performs.

People actually purchased the G Pure? Device was destined to run like complete garbage straight out of the box with that processor they chose to use. Have you attempted factory restore yet?

level 2

I agree. Yes i was in a pinch needed a phone and LG stopped making phones. I do not game or do any in depth work stuff on my it . So told the kid i want something simple. For photos dinking around on the web and making doctors calls being able to reach the kids when need be. And unfortunately im with MetroPCS for now. But when i cant even travel to Portland with my husband the times i have i have no service. I can not hear on the ear piece so i use the loud speaker just so i can make a call. It is crap, I spent to much $$ on it then i should have.

I did, but only paid $5 for it + a month of service with Visible (Verizon's prepaid carrier) lmao. If you root it you can probably tweak it to run smoother, but that is something that most people are not going to be comfortable with doing.

Their lineup the past two years has been terrible. I can't recommend them anymore, sad.

The processor inside the G Power 2021 alone makes it a better buy. I wouldn't wanna mess with the MTK processor in the G Pure. There's nothing specifically wrong with MTK chips, but the one inside that device is way slower than both of the last two models. If you do go with the G Power be aware that when you update to Android 11 it's wise to factory restore it. Granted from a fresh phone you should be fine.

I saw they have a free phone if you swap in an old one. I was wondering if you guys been liking that phone if you got it. Also goes for that visible midnight one. I found an old galaxy s5 and galaxy s4 in a drawer and might want to swap it.

Good phone, using it as my hotspot. Capable for all email, texting, internet surfing. For a free swap phone it was a significant upgrade from my previous phone.

Do you really like your glaxies? If not, doesn't hurt to pay $5 for a month and swap for the moto. For me it's a good spare phone. Solid battery and big screen.

level 2

I don’t. I completely forgot about them in a drawer from years ago. I’m surprised I even kept them. I thought it would be cool to have this spare phone to compliment my iphone so I can check out the android ecosystem with the newest version

it is fine if u r not demanding too much. ull do everything fine including social media and web usage etc. battery life is pretty good.

level 1

My biggest complaints with it are: the weight, 720p screen, and not having a Snapdragon processor. Mostly the weight though.

level 1

Not a great phone to use as a primary daily use. The processor is so slow, coupled with the throttled data is a real slug.

level 2

May just use it as a hotspot phone so if battery is good and maybe for movies and shows and google maps so if cellular service is good hardware wise i’m happy

Slow. Got it free and that's about what it's worth.
