I absolutely love this product but after 3 purchases I have stopped wasting my money. When the air flosser works it’s the best product on the market. My teeth and gums have never been healthier. But the air flosser just dies for no reason. My last one died after two short months.

My dentist recommended this product. I purchased it even though it was on the higher price side. I really believed it did a great job cleaning to start. Lights started flashing and would not charge anymore. After reading other reviews I see others had the same problem.

This was a great appliance for flossing until it started to flash its lights and stop recharging. No longer working as expected after less than 6 months. The device does do a great job and is easy to use, this particular item may have a fault.
The Phillips support team have been very good in resolving the problem. After calling the support number, I was given details about how to claim. Despite some technical issues, the company promptly sent a replacement flosser. Thank you Phillips Australia.

This is definitely a massive step up from an Oral -B electric toothbrush I bought about 10 years ago and gave up on because it was ridiculously loud! The Philips is obviously audible but very acceptable and boy, do your teeth feel smooth afterwards! Even after just a week there is already a visible difference as well, especially around the metal wire I have behind my front teeth where I could never clean properly.

Unfortunately I didn't buy what I was actually after because of the incompetence at ShaverShop. The pressure sensor was a must have...

Read more feature for me and the brush pacer much preferred to the quad pacer but unfortunately this model has neither. I bought it in a bundle (HX8491/03) with the airfloss ultra (which is another whole new great experience in itself!) but it's rather hard navigating all the slightly different models and unfortunately it's really hard to tell from the packaging what exactly is in it cause it doesn't specify model numbers or full feature list. The people at the actual shop were no help at all so I based my purchase on the Q&A and reviews on their website, which apparently also doesn't give accurate info (see pic). Also, when I opened everything up for the first time, there were fingerprints on the toothbrush handle already which I was definitely not very impressed with either. I charged everything for 24hrs as instructed and so far both are still going strong after mostly twice daily use for a week now without recharging. I'm a little bit concerned about the charging glass breaking one day as the toothbrush doesn't actually sit on the base without it, but it sure as hell all looks very flash! It has a 2 week 'training mode' (the intensity increases gradually after every full cleaning round) to get used to the vibration as well cause it's quite strong. I've been using sensitive mode however and I'm not quite sure it's compatible with that as it doesn't seem to increase, there's not a whole lot of info in the manual about functions.

Purchased in November 2020 at Shaver Shop Physical store for $349.

Clean, completes my dental care routine. I like how it gets rid of any parts missed with the toothbrush efficiently. Downside is it has stopped working with the charger and may be too strong sometimes that causes bleeding from tough food stuck in the teeth.

I have enjoyed this flosser a lot more than the water pick as its not as messy and feels like it gives a better clean. I like the 3 shot button and is what i use it on. I only use water in this and don't have any urges to use mouthwash. But i only bought my flosser in December but it seems to now only 5 months old not to be working properly. It stopped working completely with on of the lights out but then an hour or so later was working again. But then goes back to not working again meaning you need to leave it for like and hour. So it's starting to be temperamental. Now my concern is warranty as if it works sometimes and other times not how do i prove this for a warranty.

This product has assisted me to no end. My teeth feel incredible clean and look amazing!

The size is quite large, but it’s fine. I find it a little difficult to clean it once I have used mouth wash. The bubbles seem to stay in the tubing. It can take a little to clean it.

Apart from the slight difficulties I have, I would encourage everyone to purchase this item!

Philips sonicare protective care provides an easy way to clean my teeth every day. Especially the AirFloss. It is my first time to try AirFloss. I thought It might not be strong enough to remove sticky things on my teeth. However, my mind is blown. The Airfloss is perfect to clean my teeth up every day and night. It can reduce my time of cleaning my teeth comparing using conventional floss. I think this Philips sonicare is the only one I could use.

Introduction
After purchasing the Philips Sonicare DiamondClean Black Electric Tooth Brush a few months ago after my partner convinced me to do so at a local Costco store; I was rather astounded by the price... and quite a lot for an electric toothbrush.

A few months passes, and my partner suggested an AirFloss; again after seeing it for the first time at Costco, I wasn't overly convinced about its capabilities; it really looked like a toy. Anyway, after my partner again twisted my elbow, I went along and bought it; it was a large box bundled...

Read more in a twin pack in white that also came with small pouches and additional accessories. Filling the AirFloss requires a bit of patience and finesse; especially lifting the transparent plastic cover on the same front size as the trigger and power button. If only I had an eye dropper which probably would have been cleaner? Instead, I had a large bottle of Listerine mouthwash and through its large black plastic lid, I poured the contents into it and carefully emptied it some of it into the very small hole on the AirFloss. I then proceeded to use it after consuming the very basic instruction in a multi-language booklet.

Purchased in November 2019 at Costco ACT, Canberra for $189.

I love the Sonicare toothbrush...it is a total game changer.

It cleans my teeth so well whilst been super gentle on my gums (the regular brush I was using before this would always leave me with bleeding gums). I feel like it is faster than my clean with a regular toothbrush too - that might be just me but the electric clean compared to manual is such a timesaver.

My teeth look whiter and brighter and the only change to my routine for the past two weeks has been this toothbrush and airflosser.

One hundred percent worth the investment...the only negative it that the brush and flosser are too tall for my shelving unit so I need to leave them out on the bench but it looks ultra chic in the black so it is fine.

Details

Features:

The Philips Sonicare AirFloss Pro/Ultra combines air with mouthwash or water and sends a stream into your mouth as a way of dislodging particles between your teeth and cleaning along your gum line. It comes with a wide, angled nozzle which provides easy access to parts of the mouth that are harder to reach, a large liquid reservoir and guidance tips to glide along the gumline. There is a travel charger and 1 head included in the package.

Points of praise:

Reviewers loved that the product was easy to use and found it to be effective in cleaning between their teeth. The design is also sleek and compact.

To consider:

The Sonicare AirFloss Pro/Ultra could be too harsh for sensitive teeth, the price point is a drawback and a few users found that their air flossers broke after a short time.

Does the Sonicare AirFloss really work?

Yes. Philips Sonicare AirFloss Pro will remove more plaque than brushing alone, and is clinically proven equivalent to floss for plaque removal and gum health. It has been proven to remove up to 99.9% of plaque from treated areas.

Has Sonicare AirFloss been discontinued?

The Sonicare AirFloss has now been discontinued by Philips. As an alternative, please see our Philips Sonicare Cordless Power Flosser 3000 Review or our post on the best cordless water flosser choices.

Which is better AirFloss or water flosser?

The Waterpik® Water Flosser was 80% more effective in overall gingivitis reduction and 70% more effective for plaque reduction than Sonicare® Air Floss. Notably, the Water Flosser was twice as effective for plaque removal from lingual surfaces and more than three times as effective at the gingival margin vs. Air Floss.

Is Waterpik better than Philips Sonicare?

Both devices proved to be significantly effective, but in the end, Waterpik came out on top in both categories. In the plaque removal analysis at the end of the study, the Waterpik group showed average plaque reductions of around 74.9% throughout the mouth. The Sonicare Airfloss had a lower figure of 57.5%.
