Organizers expect large turn-out

Fogal said local businesses and patrons are excited to have pub crawl back after it was canceled the previous two years due to gathering restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The decision was made recently to hold the pub crawl after the visitors bureau obtained permission from the event from the St. Clair County Health Department, she said.

Lynch's Irish Tavern manager Leo Carroll said they are excited to hold pub crawl again. He often gets customers asking about the event.

"I get people coming in all the time (saying) 'Oh, are you guys ready for pub crawl? We'll be there.' Almost all of my customers, I get that question," Carroll said. "So, I know that there's a lot of people planning on coming out."

Carroll said Lynch's is putting together a cocktail list for the event and will have craft beer and Irish car bombs. The menu will include traditional Irish fare, including corned beef and cabbage with carrots, shepherd's pie, bangers and mash and fish and chips.

Robert McCormick, the new owner of McCormick's Conner Street Pub, said this will be the first time he will participate in the event as a restaurant owner. He has worked at other establishments during previous pub crawls, and always remembered it as a fun time for both staff and patrons.

"It's usually just a good time for everybody," he said.

The restaurant will have food specials, such as Irish egg rolls and Rueben sandwiches, and live music, McCormick said.

Carroll and Fogal said they expect a large turnout for the event, perhaps even a greater turnout than 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic. Carroll said the event seems to be gaining traction on social media. Fogal said callers to the convention center are looking forward to having the event back.

“People are ready to get out, ready to be outside, ready to have fun," Fogal said.

They said New Year's Day through Pub Crawl tends to be slow for business. Pub Crawl provides a revenue boost to help bars and restaurants make it through the lean winter months.

The annual event is a good way to promote the Port Huron area, Fogal said. People come from out of the area and stay in local hotels. Perhaps some people who visit see how nice the area is and return in the summer, she said.
