Inside: Why the Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer & Volumizer is a game-changer for those of us who want professionally blown-out hair at home.

Some of us are gifted at styling our hair. And some of us are not. I fall into the latter category.

If I air-dry my hair, it tends to dry in awkward waves and curls and requires a variety of products to keep it frizz-free.

Blow-drying is the best option to give me the smooth finish that I want.

MY PROBLEM WITH STANDARD BLOW DRYERS

When I blow dry my hair with a standard blow dryer, I need to use a round brush in one hand, and my blow dryer in the other in order to get a smooth finish to my hair.

I’ve never quite gotten the hang of it, but I try to keep the blow dryer moving down my hair shaft as I unroll the brush. I’m not the most dextrous of women, so it’s awkward, not to mention time-consuming, to blow out my hair this way.

So, when a friend suggested I try the Revlon Salon One-Step Hair Dryer and Volumizer, I was intrigued.

WHY THE REVLON ONE-STEP IS UNIQUE

The Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer & Volumizer is different from your standard blow dryer because it is a blow dryer brush. So you only need one hand to get salon-worthy blowout results.

No more fussing with a roller brush in one hand, and a blow dryer in the other!

Revlon One-Step

ADVANTAGES TO THE REVLON ONE-STEP BLOW DRYER BRUSH

IT’S AFFORDABLE

Are there other blow dryer brushes out there? Yes! But the only other blow dryer brushes of similar quality (such as the Dyson) are super expensive.

The Revlon One-Step, on the other hand, can be purchased for $60 or less at most major retail outlets. That’s a great price for a tool that will revolutionize your hair care routine.

IT’S EASY TO USE

There really is NO learning curve with the Revlon One-Step. It’s quite intuitive! I just turn it on, put the roller under my hair, and pull it down from the roots.

It takes only about 10 minutes to get a salon-worthy blowout, which is about twice as fast as my standard blow dryer (but with better results!)

The big advantage isn’t the speed at which your hair dries, however, but the ease of use. I love not having to sync a roller brush and blow dryer together. Having both products rolled up into one makes my blow-drying routine so much easier!

IT’S A 3-IN-1 TOOL

Not only does the Revlon One-Step replace your old hairdryer and roller brush, it also replaces your flat-iron.

Flat-irons can be so damaging, but I often risked using them because I loved the sleek finish they created. But the Revlon One-Step gives me that same smooth and sleek finish and saves me an extra step in my morning routine.

THE CORD NEVER GETS TANGLED

One of my favorite features of the Revlon One-Step is that the cord is on a swivel base, so it never gets in your way or tangled up. The folks at Revlon deserve a freaking medal for this innovation!

THREE HEAT SETTINGS GIVE YOU FLEXIBILITY

The One-Step has three heat settings: Cool, Low and High. The High heat setting is VERY hot, and since I want to minimize damage to my graying hair, I avoid this setting.

Instead, I use the Low setting. It’s still quite hot but it’s much more comfortable (for me).

Cool is nice if it’s a hot day, and I like having that option, but I am usually in a big hurry when I dry my hair and need some heat to speed things up.

NON-SLIP BRISTLES GRIP FINE HAIR

I have fairly fine hair, and some roller brushes have difficulty gripping onto my strands. The Revlon One-Step bristles grip my hair and keep a hold on it, which makes blow-drying faster and easier.

A COUPLE OF NOTES ABOUT THIS PRODUCT

Overall, I LOVE this product, but there are a couple of issues that I hope Revlon addresses in future models.

The barrel is quite wide. I only dry my hair two times a week, but it makes my fingers ache a bit after each session. (My rabid iPhone usage doesn’t help my thumbs, so that could be part of the problem…)

It’s loud. Yes, I know all hair dryers are loud, but this one is pretty dang loud. Sometimes I think about adding earplugs to my morning routine.

HOW I USE THE REVLON SALON ONE-STEP HAIR DRYER & VOLUMIZER

Since I am growing out my gray hair, and heat can cause gray hair to yellow, I take some steps to protect my hair from heat damage before I use the One-Step.

First, I wrap my hair in a t-shirt towel after I shower and let my hair dry in the towel for 20 or more minutes while I go about my business.

Then I spray a little thermal protectant on my hair for added heat protection.

I use hair clips to section off my hair, turn the One-Step on Low and get to work on each section. I pull my hair down from the roots, and it usually takes 2-3 passes to dry my hair in each section.

Note: The bristles on the One-Step should be protected when storing. I actually store the One-Step on top of my open laundry basket as the soft clothes protect it. I’m sure there’s a better way! 🙂

IS THE REVLON ONE-STEP SAFE FOR GRAY HAIR?

I have been using it for a few months on my transitioning-to-gray hair and haven’t seen any ill effects so far! And the members of Silver Revolution have reported very positive results as well.

Just to be safe, make sure to follow the steps outlined above to avoid heat damage on your grays:

  • Don’t start with sopping wet hair. Instead, start with damp hair.
  • Spray thermal protectant on your hair
  • Use the Low or Cool Heat settings – not High!

How damaging is the Revlon hair dryer brush?

The Cons. With consistent use on my thin (read: fragile) hair, this tool appeared to cause more breakage with the dual bristles that often tugged on my tresses. Despite its claims to reduce heat damage, having a hot tool directly on my hair has prompted me to douse my locks in heat protectant spray.

Why is my Revlon brush squeaking?

The noise indicates that the blades are either loose or broken and the blades are hitting the vents. Disassemble the hairdryer and if the part is loose, tighten the blades. If it is broken, replace the impeller.

Does the Revlon hair dryer brush have boar bristles?

about the product The Wood Series Round Hair Brush from Revlon features a mix of nylon and natural boar bristles that will help prevent hair breakage and give it extreme shine and volume. Handle features a rubber grip for added comfort while styling.
