Listen closely during the part where Rudolph, Herme, and Yukon are asleep in the cabin just after their meeting with with king on the island of mistfit toys. It sounds like somebody with a CB radio interfering with the audio, just for a couple of seconds. I can't quite make out what is being said, I think it might be Japanese.

  2. Wow... good catch. That's hilarious. Whoever it is, they sound pretty excited....

  3. I have this set. It does have the original "Misfits" song within the special, and the replacement "Fame and Fortune" included as a special feature. I think it also has the deleted bits from "We Are Santa's Elves" but I'm not positive about that. But it does NOT have the original closing/credit sequence where Yukon finds the peppermint mine included anywhere. Why they didn't include that as a special feature I don't know.

For what it's worth, this is the one I have. It does include the instrumental break in the Santa's elves number, and the "peppermint" scene.

I don't know what that "Destiny's Child" thing is, I threw it away.

  5. It would sure be nice if they did either a composite edit, or issue both the major color variants on one DVD as a selectable viewer option. A couple of years ago, they digitally restored the original version without "Fame and Fortune" but the restoration is WAY too dark. I recorded it off TV, dumped it into my editor, and adjusted the brightness back to normal. I'm still peeved they didn't do the same to the "Fame and Fortune" version...

I wonder if we'll ever see a proper restoration of Rudolf and/or other Rankin/Bass stop-motion specials for Blu-ray. I bet these show would look and sound fantastic in hi-def.

  7. I believe Rudolph has aired this way in recent years, so I would be surprised. Several Christmas classics are coming to blu-ray this year.

  8. I saw a screening of the original NBC Network print of this recently with the original GE commercials, ending, etc. Took me back to a much simpler time...It's a shame it's not in the public domain...

  9. I thought this would be about Fred Astaire and Burl Ives getting into a fistfight or something.

  10. Or maybe "VH1 presents Rudolph: Behind The Scenes" with Yukon's descent into Peppermint addiction, and ultimate redemption....

Anyway, I think I've posted this in another Rudolph thread here: I've read a lot of the various articles online about the history/back story Rudolph special, but I don't recall seeing one question addressed:

During the scene at elf practice, (you know, "We Are Santa's Elves") why does the "head elf"'s voice completely change, for just one line?

All through the special he has that gruff "a DENTIST!" voice, but for that one line the voice is all wimpy.

    What gives?

  11. I grew up with this special as well (never had it on home video), and am totally familiar with both songs, "Misfits" and "Fame and Fortune". But now I read that one song was a substitution for the other? When did this happen? In my memory both songs are in the show.

  13. Raging Rudolph *still* gets a smile out of me all these years later. I don't even need to watch it for that to happen

  14. I was thinking about getting the new BluRay of "Rudolph." Anyone know whether it includes any of the deleted/alternate scenes?

  15. It's just the blu ray of the special, that's it.
