Zingiber zerumbet, Awapuhi or Shampoo Ginger, is a perennial multipurpose herbaceous plant. The shoots, rhizomes and inflorescence liquid are all consumable. The rhizome has traditionally been used in medicinal applications as an anti-inflammatory, anti-diarrheal, de-wormer, and for various types of pain management.

The Shampoo Ginger is very popular at the moment, and numbers are very limted. For this reason, there is a limit of one per customer (1 x 125mm pot OR 1 x 180mm pot - NOT one of each size). Shipping is not economical when ordering just one plant, so please make up orders with other plants to fill a box. Shipping becomes most economical when ordering at least 6 x 180mm pots, or 9 x 125mm pots.

Since numbers of the shampoo ginger are so limited, we will priortise orders that contain at least 5 or 6 plants, rather than orders that only have one or two plants.

We have a large backlog of customers waiting for stock, so please, if we do run out and can't supply you in this small batch release, please register your interest once again using the 'Out of Stock - Notify Me' link so that you get a notification when the next batch is released which should be in another month or two.

The traditional uses of this plant are quite varied, from general pain relief of sprains to toothaches (applying the ground pulp to affected areas), to ingestion for treatment of stomach aches, worms, and diarrhea.

Its also becoming a more and more important plant in modern medicine. New studies also link an extract from this plant called 'zerumbone' to having the ability to destroy cancerous cells in the human liver.
