• Stadium Arcadium, the Red Hot Chili Peppers' ninth studio album, was praised for encompassing the different styles the band have explored throughout their career, which started as a funk-styled, rap-rock outfit in 1983. The upbeat rocker "So Much I," which appears on the album's second disc, Mars, is a necessary component in the band's music. "We need that in part of the repertoire," Kiedis said. "We need that motion, that locomotion."

• Although he wasn't part of the writing process for the track, guitarist John Frusciante thinks of this as a tribute to his friend Guy Picciotto of the band Fugazi because the tune immediately reminded him of Guy's guitar playing.

• Kiedis thinks the driving nature of the verse is reminiscent of the '80s punk-rock band the Minutemen.
