Yes that is right. But I would add something to it. Those who thinks "10 times more than 6,000" is 66,000 is probably thinking too much in terms of mathematics, not fully in terms of language. In idiomatic language it means 60,000 that is "10 times more than 6000 = 10 times 6000 = 10 times as much as 6000". But as those group that thinks more logically/mathematically are not completely wrong, that's why "10 times more than 6,000" is ambiguous. And hence, I personally avoid it. But as far as I know usage/style commentators don't discourage such usage.
