4-4.5 ⭐️ Twisted Love is the first book I have read from Anna Huang and if did not disappoint! When grumpy Alex is forced to watch over his best friends sister Ava, who is full of sunshine things start to heat up quickly between them. This book was full of hot tension and even hotter steamer scenes, and then throw in some twists and turns I didn’t expect made it hard to put down. I’m excited to see where this series is going and love that it is centered around a 4-girlfriend group rather than the typical 4-brothers/best friends that we are typically used to in romance series. 10/10 recommend!!

The banter was very awkward and unpolished. I read the first few chapters and was very unimpressed by the writing so I just switched to another book in my kindle. After finishing, I gave it a second shot. I read several more chapters and stopped again right before halfway. I just could not get passed the amateur writing and lackluster dialogue. I am not usually a quitter and have completed many mediocre books just could not finish this one. Unfortunately, I don’t even think I can give this author a second try. My only motivation for a negative review is to give people an honest opinion because I feel like the 5 star reviews must be solicited or something!

Ava and Alex’s story is fun, full of surprises, and spicy. Alex is the quintessential broody bad boy, shape by circumstance. Ava is the good girl who is Alex’s complete opposite.

OMG for the love of all that is giddy, why did I wait so long to read this?! Brother’s best friend, enemies to lovers (ish), grumpy sunshine, the betrayal, the grovel (!) and more, the author brings all of the tropes and cliches to play (“he’s only soft for her!” “He’d burn it all down for her!”). And I mean this in the best way possible, because cliches are cliches for a reason. In competent hands, they just work. You can tell this was written by a ~romance loving~ author, because she manages to push all the swoon buttons. It was the perfect balance of angsty and cheesy and swoony I didn’t know I was looking for. It is a very straightforward, sunshine girl reconnects with grumpy alpha boy when he’s tasked to protect her in older brother’s absence story if you think about it, but it’s the characters that make the story, and Ava’s joyous effervescence and Alex’s growly overprotectiveness hit just the spot. I called some of the twists right away and some not so much, but it’s those that heighten the angst and action of the story, and make it a compulsive page turner. Also, it’s just plain satisfying fun to watch Ava crumble each of Alex’s hang ups one by one, make him do every single thing he would never, and bring him to his knees when the time comes. It’s glorious. Ava’s girl squad was one of my favorite parts of the book (a well written girl gang is a thing of beauty), and I’m excited to read about them all. Bridget is next and we already get a glimpse into what she’s in for, but the one I’m looking forward to the most already is Jules and (most likely) Josh because there were sparks everywhere in the 5 seconds they were on page together, and you know I’ll eat that shizz up with a spoon.

Ava was all sunshine and rainbows most of the book. This was broken up by nightmares of a past she can’t quite remember. Alex was a cold intense hero who kept a tight control on everything around him and was hell bent on revenge. I liked them as individuals but wished the romance was better. I loved the jealous OTT moments but didn’t get enough steam. Sex just felt rushed and a bit emotionless. I liked some of the twists in the story but it also felt like the author was going to go one way….then decided not to but left us with more questions. What about her mother? We didn’t see her coming to grips with the wrongful anger and resentment she would have had against her. Who is her real father? I thought it would have some connection to hero but nope. Separation (kind of) for a year HFN
