With the group stage complete and a 2023 Women's World Cup berth in hand, both the United States and Costa Rica now look to push towards a chance at securing the CONCACAF W Championship title as well as the 2024 Summer Olympics berth that comes along with it.

Nothing short of hoisting the trophy will be acceptable for the top-ranked United States women, but they'll have to push past two stout opponents to achieve that goal. With Canada expected to loom in the final, first up is a formidable Costa Rica side in the semifinals.

Canada brushed Costa Rica aside days ago to win Group B, but on the whole, head coach Amelia Valverde has this team playing with cohesion, something which the United States is still working to build.

The winner of this match is set for at least a place in the CONCACAF Summer Olympic playoff, but only the tournament champion will secure a guaranteed berth in the Paris games.

USWNT vs. Costa Rica projected lineups

Vlatko Andonovski rotated the squad heavily over the three group stage victories. While his publicly championed reasoning of keeping squad players sharp is fair, it comes at the cost of starter chemistry, which has become an issue of late. Now into the knockout stage, the true starters should be deployed.

Casey Murphy earned two of the three group stage starts in goal, but Alyssa Naeher is still thought of as the first-choice goalkeeper. Others to get playing time in the group stage who should drop to the bench include Naomi Girma, Midge Purce, Andi Sullivan, and Sofia Huerta. Girma could be an option if Andonovski believes she has out-played captain Becky Sauerbrunn, but the U.S. boss has been an outspoken supporter of Sauerbrunn even as the veteran defender has been exposed at times against speedier opponents.

Striker Ashley Hatch, who played well against Jamaica, has withdrawn from the squad after picking up a thigh injury. With Cat Macario already out after tearing her ACL, the center-forward burden now rests solely on the shoulders of USWNT legend Alex Morgan. Hatch was replaced on the roster by midfielder Sam Coffey.

Costa Rica head coach Amelia Valverde had named an unchanged side for the first two matches before making just minor tweaks against Canada, establishing a clear first-team lineup that is clicking well. The team's 36-year-old Swiss Army knife Shirley Cruz has been deployed off the bench on both flanks, and she's joined by a wealth of experience across the field. Lixy Rodriguez, Melissa Herrera, and Cristin Granados all sport at least 47 international caps alongside Cruz's 91.

There's also exciting youth sprinkled into the lineup, with 20-year-old Priscila Chinchilla, who plays for Glasgow City in Scotland, deployed out wide. The attack was spearheaded in the first two matches by 19-year-old Chievo Verona striker Maria Paula Salas already with 23 caps, but then Costa Rica came up empty against Canada with Raquel Rodriguez used up front instead.

USWNT vs. Costa Rica betting odds & lines

Costa Rica may be +5000 longshots against the No. 1 team in the world, but don't count Las Ticas out. After dismantling group stage opponents Panama and Trinidad & Tobago, they gave Canada difficulties despite conceding an early opener.

Canada maintained possessional dominance and out-shot Costa Rica 15-3, but Costa Rica also produced good counterattacks, forcing Canada to foul and pick up yellow cards in the process. The total is set at 3.5 goals despite Costa Rica not being expected to find the back of the net, according to most books. The United States would do extremely well to keep a clean sheet and trigger the over as well.
