Thinking of going for White or Silver on my next S3. The main reason is that I just can't be bothered cleaning it myself. I have a Sepang S3 2015 at the moment, which I do love, but I have spent a small fortune and lost way too many hours cleaning it myself as I am worried about swirls on blue.
My thinking is that White is good for hiding swirls and so I can just take it to a local car wash.
(I know this sounds like sacrilege but I just really fancy a more hands off cleaning regime)
So, will I regret not having metallic paint? Is there a big difference between solid and metallic?

I always had silver in the past and I never washed my car. I've got quite good at washing it this year but that doesn't mean I actually enjoy it lol.
The idea of white does interest me but then I see that solid white is free so is the metallic worth the extra?

Thanks for your views. (Don't hate me for wanting to be lazy)

I have a glacier s3 and it is pretty easy to keep clean although you still have to keep at it as it picks dirt up pretty easily. You'll still see swirls from car wash places, that's something you just can't avoid unless you clean it yourself with the right materials

As for Glacier or Ibis, I may be biased but I think the metallic is worth the extra. They're two different shades of white, Ibis is a solid pure white whilst Glacier is more a smoky grey/white, you definitely notice the difference when they're next to each other.

This video pretty much sealed it for me aswell, depends on the type of white you're after.

I went glacier in the end after much deliberation. Mates got an ibis white and it's a couple of years old and even with constant cleaning it's slowly yellowing in my opinion. Once cleaned and in the light the glacier white has an awesome look and is much crisper

Well I went through the same dilemma. I really couldn't decide between the two and sometimes when you're out and about it's really hard to tell if the car in front is Ibis or Glacier which made it really difficult to justify the difference in cost between the flat and metallic. Sometimes the Ibis looks great as it's just a pure white and other times the glacier has the sparkle. When the two colours are together its really obvious. but out on the roads it's not always apparent. What sealed it for me was seeing a Glacier White S3 at a dealers. It was a customer car that had been abused, sorry I mean cleaned, for 6 months and even though it was swirled to hell there was still a sparkle to it. The silver and chrome highlights together with the anthracite alloys sealed the deal and glacier was ordered. I still umm and arr over it all the time, but I saw another glacier white S3 sportback yesterday and it did look the business.

Biased obviously but Glacier white gets my vote.
I previously had an 8p in Ibis and the colour difference is slight, although Glacier really does pop in the right light. Just yesterday with the sun out in certain spots the colour almost had a pearlescent look to it.

Each to their own, budget has to be taken into account but I'd choose it again without a doubt.

My old B8 A4 was ibis white. 'Twas an easy colour to keep clean & easy enough to get great reflections on too

Could be my next (again) colour on my next Audi when I've finished with my current S4

Save the money on glacier white metallic & get ibis & then go buy some more options is my advice

As always, just my opinion of course ...

Way back in 1990 I ordered a 80 Sport in white - people said ah you'll be washing it every day..............
In fact other than the silver 80 I had in 1985 it has possibly been the best colour to keep clean - easily.

My current Misano is good but it was treated new with GTecknic

Not sure I've ever seen Glacier.... but I have seen GTi and R in VW's version and they are stunning.
If I ordered a GTi I 'd go for the metallic white - never mind the cost !

Glacier gets my vote, love it...

Ibis. Just be lazy. Save your money and spend it on beer. It will. E no more desirable come resale time.

My last car (S5) was ibis.
Had it for the best part of 3 years from new and it never lost its look and certainly didn't turn yellow as the instance mentioned above. Was like brand new when I traded it.
As mentioned it's all personal taste but I preferred mine sitting next to a colleagues Glacier A5 but both great colours.

I have an Ibis TT and a Glacier A3 and I couldn't honestly say which I prefer. If Ibis had been available when I bought the A3 I'd have gone with it. Both look stunning and are easy to keep clean.

Glacier by far the best white I've ever seen on a car. Sometimes has like a blueish translucent tinge to it it's that pure. Ibis to me looks creamy at times.

PS I had my ibis white B8 A4 for 5 1/2 years & never had issues with yellowing

But it still looks like ibis to me

I knew I had a photo of both my cars together. Taken on a cloudy day.

Keep the current one and save a fortune!
My flat red S3 gets pressure washed once a year when it is serviced by Audi and still works just fine...........a car don't care if it is clean or dirty.

Might do in the photo but there's definitely some trickery going on in the flesh! Cheeky sod. Suzuka is actually based on a variant of Glacier.

IMO: Glacier looks slightly better in bright sunlight (where the metallic paint "pops", and Ibis washes out a little as it's too bright), Ibis looks better the rest of the time, because if it's not in really bright sunlight Glacier just looks like a slightly dirty, off-white Ibis. (Glospete's photo above kind of demonstrates it: the Glacier just looks slightly grey)

I've had my Ibis A3 for 5 years now, and I've just ordered a new one. Absolutely no signs of yellowing, and it stays surprisingly clean unless you're doing a lot of winter motorway miles.

I just don't see how the Glacier justifies the extra costs in the UK, where it's mostly cloudy anyway. If I lived in SoCal or somewhere you get a lot more sun, I'd probably go Glacier though.

I've got an A3 Saloon in Ibis White and I have to say I prefer it over the Glacier White. On all my Audi's I've had I would put pearl/crystal on top then the solid. Ibis White is really bright that I can see my car from the other end of the street. I wash my car myself every couple of weeks and it doesn't really get that dirty in between washes. I guess maybe because I've waxed my car it's better protected against the elements contributing to how long it takes to get really dirty

Go for the Ibis White. It's just as nice (when clean) and it'll save you some wedge.

I have the Ibis white and don't regret it one bit. It's really bright if that's the look you're after.

I used to have the Amalfi White on the PFL and didn't really like it as it was kind of creamy looking, but not so with the Ibis which is white than white.

I have a Glacier White S3 - Not through choice though, it just ticked all my other boxes spec wise. I think white on cars is starting to look at bit "meh" nowadays However I've grown to like it and I think it's broken up a bit by the pan roof.

If I had a choice it would be Sepang blue any day, lovely color. I don't really care about swirls or detailing etc.

You can't say things like that on here! Just between you and me (no one else read the next bit) I don't care either. I wash, never detail, my car about 4 or 5 times a year.

I went glacier and don't regret it. The way it sparkles and flickers in the sun light is really nice.

Same here. Some guy on here complained that he thought his new car was acceptable paint wise but then was "absolutely horrified" upon close inspection specifically when viewed under petrol station lighting. LOL. i kind of worried for his sanity. But each to their own i guess. Perhaps i'm just too slap dash to care?

I went to the national car museum last week. Was drooling over an E-Type jag. On very close inspection said car did actually have swirly marks in the paint, but i didnt come away thinking "my god look at those swirls". I just thought my god look how beautiful that car is

When it comes to swap the car for another a dealer will look in a book and tell you how much it's worth. They won't give you a bit extra because you've spent 2 grand on waxing it with unicorn tears in the time you've owned it.

I think you'll find most people who look after their cars paintwork do it for themselves not for how much they think it might be worth further down the line.

I for one can't stand seeing swirls and holograms in my paintwork, so I take care when cleaning it to ensure I don't introduce more marring than it gets from regular use. It doesn't really take anymore time to do it properly, but I would rather leave it dirty than go to a road side hack and slash.

What's the difference between glacier white and white?

Both options are shades of white color. Glacier Pearl White automotive paint is viewed at different angles, it usually is possible to see slightly different appearances. When both paints are viewed face-on, Clear White paint has very little depth and only the color is seen.

Is Audi Glacier white metallic?

Glacier White is a metallic and is what I have. I love it and when the sun catches it the metallic fleck looks great. Ibis White is a softer slightly creamier white where Glacier is ultra white.

What is the paint code for Audi Glacier white?

Auto paint Glacier White - Paint code LS9R Compatible with Audi - Urethane basecoat - Pint.

What Colour is Ibis white?

This ibis is almost entirely white, save for the black-tipped wings and brilliant reddish pink legs and bill. The bare skin around their blue eyes is also reddish pink. Juveniles (fall through winter) are brown above and white below with a streaky brown neck. The legs and bill of juveniles are orange-pink.
