Hi Bikini Whisperer,

I need major help immediately! I have sunny outings lined up for the weekend, and I can’t build a sun-kissed look over night. How do I find a bikini to suit my pale skin?

Sincerely,

Not a Hint of Tint

Not a Hint of Tint

Honey, you’re not the only one with this issue — actually, let me rephrase that. It’s not an issue! Your skin is beautiful. Who says that any particular shade is a must for summer? Whatever your tone, there's a bikini out there that will show it off to gorgeous effect.

You can have pale skin with either a warm tone or a cool tone. Here's how to figure it out: Take a look at your veins. Are they slightly green-ish? Then you have yellow undertones and are warm complected. Warm skin coloring looks great with vibrant hues — not to be confused with neons. Go on and rock the brights!

Don’t be disappointed if your veins appear blue — this just means you are cool complected, and you'll look lovely wearing rich hues. I suggest jewel tones — think of emeralds and sapphires. These colors allow for a high contrast but are softer than black. I’m not saying you shouldn't wear black. If you're worried about it, though, you should consider the fact that black will heighten the contrast between the fabric and your skin. If you love black, though, choose a bikini that doesn’t have a high neck silhouette. A black bandeau would totally work.

I would suggest completely staying away from pastels — these sweet hues will wash you out. White? It’s so right now — just treat it like you would treat black, and look for a suit with white accents rather than a solid.

You can also mix-and-match jewel-toned colors with prints, but put the solid piece farthest from your face. For example, a white bottom with a printed top would work great.

Go on with your merry, pale self and try out these rich hues and bright colors, which will complement your skin. And always, always remember: SPF!

Xoxo,

Bikini Whisperer
