What happens if someone pulls the fire alarm during an exam?

Are any provisions made for interrupting your flow of work?

How do they stop people talking when evacuating?

Anyone had one before? Share you experience

during my schools year 10 mocks which weren't anything serious
[as in external exams]
they were kept in the school hall to carry on with the exam
they must have known it was a prank though

Yes, they go every year at my school during exams (morons setting them off). You just have to close the papers and leave the exam hall and go to the fire assembly point.

This happened at my school 2 weeks ago. Year 11's last day, three idiots set off the fire alarm and have thus been permanently excluded. Everyone was escorted out in silence, and the exams resumed afterwards with a couple of minutes added to get everyone back on track. Language orals were interupted too. I believe the candidates were given the option to either start again or pick up where they left off from. Of course in the school's exam report, the incident was reported in all cases and I should imagine examiners will look more favourably on results, especially with orals.

As we are reminded in the pre-exam speech thingy 'if the fire alarm sounds remain seated in silence' sometimes they add on '...and burn to death'! Nice and cheery. LoL

I think the centre has to report it to the exam board.

In january in our S2 exam there were a load of year 11's having their mocks in the hall with us and one of their phones went off and then they al kept farting and laughing about it, so the school informed the exam board as it was a disturbance and may have affected our performance.

i remember a bird flying into the exam hall through an open window during my gcse physics exam. everyone was diving around the place, it was funny.

Ha we had that, except it crashed into the window. And in cartoon fashion, slowly slid down the window with its feathers blowing about everywhere

If anything was to put me off an exam, it would be that sight!

we just get told to carry on with the exam, i guess when its confirmed that its a real fire, or if like smoke starts erupting into the corridors, they would evacuate us all

I used to wonder this a lot, it'd be rather difficult I imagine, people could cheat so easily.

Hmmm...this happened to us just as the GCSE English Lit papers were being collected so I was fine, but the people who had extra time had to go line up on the other side of the courts with like a few metres between them or something. They then got around 5 mins extra time added on. To be honest, you get extra time for a *lot* of stuff. In our extension Physics exam (I did triple science) there was a pigeon stuck in the roof of our gym (it's wierd...there were kind've rafter type things in the ceiling) and it made loads of noise and the caretaker had to come in to open the window up...and we got 5 mins extra time because of the dissruption. I expect exam boards give out protocol sheets so that school know how much extra time should be given in what situation.

Someone at my school did this yonks ago - I just went out for a mid AEA cigarette.
And rather ingeniously, a diabetic friend didn't take his insulin causing him to faint and being escorted to the medical room, where he had already snuck in before the exam to hide notes and a textbook. He's at Oxford now...

get up run around in circles shouting fire fire fire fire fire......

That diabetic thing is awful! But quite funny...

if it happens at our college, we have to evacuate to the tennis courts and stand equally spaced apart in silence until we can go back into the exam hall, like that would ever happen hahaha. we get told that at the start of each and every exam, it's so annoying.

It went off at my college once and there was an alarm in the hall, was funny seeing all the invigulators standing on chairs trying to cover the alarm to make it quieter, if there was a fire it would have been easy to run out through the fire exits. Luckily they gave us an extra 5 minutes to make up for it.

ROFL! This happened few years ago at my college, we had to close exam papers and go to sit on a field all spaced out evenly by about 20m lol. there were about 4 teachers to every student haha they literally bought the staff room up to check we weren't cheating lol

One happened on Monday, I think they all had to leave and not talk to each other at all

They had all these staff checking!

One time there is a real fire and I'm on study leave. Tsk.

Surely it takes longer than 5 minutes to get everyone out, register them, get them back in, and start again whilst ensuring people don't talk at the same time. Seems really unfair
