I live inColumbus, Ohio and want to plan an ocean trip this summer. What is the closest ocean beach to Ohio. We've already been to Myrtle Beach. Looking for something a little closer and not as expensive. I will be traveling with my husband and 2 kids (ages 19 and 17). Looking for an area that would have things to do and also the option of going to the beach or the pool. Show Reply Report inappropriate content

Re: Closest ocean beaches to Ohio 6 years ago Save Hi jbell252, Welcome to theOhio Forum! There is lots of info in this thread. What exactly are you wanting in a beach? (Lake, Great Lake, or Ocean?) What do you want to do once at the beach? (Just relax with not many people around, lots of attractions and awesome food options, amusement parks, everything within walking distance vs needing to drive, ... ?) To directly answer your question, there may be closer beaches, but the closest beach I have visited is Alum Creek State Park. Looking at the Great Lakes, Maumee Bay State Park has nice beaches, both on the the bay (Lake Erie) and on their inland lake. Looking at the Ocean, a friend recently visited Bethany Beach, DE and had a good time. (probably 9.5 hours from Marysville) FWIW, I would still drive the extra hour to The Grand Strand or VB if going to the ocean. Reply Report inappropriate content

We observe that Buckeyes LOVE to travel from Maine toKey West. Find any Atlantic Ocean Beach, and there will be Ohio cars in the parking lot. Tis not ever a mater of hours and minutes to the destination; however, tis the quality of the beach destination. After a few vacations some Buckeye prefer 1-3 beaches, and avoid other locations for various demographic reasons. Slainte Reply Report inappropriate content

The drive took us about 10 hours, including a couple of stops. Think there are pros and cons to all of the above, but one point not mentioned with Virginia Beach is that you are also close to lots of other interesting and historic sites. Jamestown, Yorktown and Colonial Williamsburg: 40 mins, Chincoteague island and NASA base at Wallops Island: a couple of hours (also close to Ocean City), dolphin or whale watching in the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay (15 mins) as well as many beautiful river and bay views on the mainland peninsulas and Eastern Shore to the north. If you are visiting just for the beach, pick any of the other options, but if you are also sightseeing, VB is hard to beat. Reply if you want more info. Reply Report inappropriate content

They are a bit closer thanMyrtle Beach or Outer Banks. Go to VRBO.com and check out vacation houses. You just select the state and then the area of the state you are interested in (coastal). Sometimes it's cheaper to rent a house for a week, rather than stay in a hotel and dine out every meal. You can take your own food when you stay in a house. You can also rent a larger home and invite family to split the cost up between families. Reply Report inappropriate content

A little closer and staying a liltte south from the boardwalk is your best bet if you don't like large crowds What is the closest ocean to the USA?As the second largest ocean basin, the Atlantic Ocean borders the east coast of the U.S., while the Pacific, Earth's largest ocean basin, borders the U.S. West Coast.
What ocean is closer Minnesota? You would probably think that most of the US is either closest to the Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean or the Gulf of Mexico. But this is not the case for all of the US. For most of Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin, the Hudson Bay in northern Canada is the closest sea.
How far is the ocean from Denver? The distance from Denver to the ocean is about 896 miles if you measure to the Gulf of Mexico. It is also about 1,307 miles to the Hudson Bay. Denver is 1,439 miles to the Atlantic Ocean.
What ocean is closest to California?Given its 840 miles of beautiful coastline, California's relationship with the Pacific Ocean is deep and abiding.
