What is the Nissan Rogue Sport comparable to?

The 2021 Kia Sportage hits with value and looks even if its performance and fuel economy slightly miss.

The 2021 Mazda CX-30 is great-looking, spacious, and more polished and fun-to-drive than other compact competitors, but it’s a step behind in value and features.

The 2021 Subaru Crosstrek flexes a more potent available powertrain but still prioritizes safety and capability.

What we like: Comfortable ride; family-friendly features; standard suite of safety systems.

What we would change: No hybrid version offered; power is merely adequate.

Overview: The Nissan Rogue was completely new for the 2021 model year, so for 2022, it’s expected to carry forward its updates, including an all-new look, standard Nissan Safety Shield 360 safety tech, intelligent driver alertness monitoring, and a whole host of cabin technology upgrades, not to mention a refined and upgraded 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine.

Although a small number of “pilot program” Rogues were outfitted with 1.5-liter turbocharged 3-cylinder engines, the standard engine in all Rogues is a 2.5-liter non-turbocharged 4-cylinder. Rated for 181 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque, the refined 2.5-liter engine is 11 hp and 6 lb-ft stronger than previous iterations. Still, its power lags behind the competition from Toyota and Honda, which also offer more efficient hybrid versions.

In terms of daily comfort and utility, the Rogue’s rear doors open very wide, making it easy to get in and out–even with cargo or child seats — and the available rear window shades are a nice option.

What’s new for 2022: Not much, if anything, is likely to be new for 2022, as the Rogue was all-new for 2021.

Features and Technology: The 2022 Nissan Rogue will likely be offered in four trims, just like the 2021 model: S, SV, SL, and the new Platinum model. You can add all-wheel drive to any model of Rogue for an extra $1,400. Other features, like which version of the navigation or audio systems are available, vary by trim level but include up to 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 19-inch wheels, hands-free power liftgate, in-car Wi-Fi, 9-inch touchscreen center display with navigation, wireless phone charging, wireless Apple CarPlay, Bose audio, head-up display, and more.

Prices range from $27,275 (including $1,175 in destination fees) for the 2021 Nissan Rogue S up to $36,605 for the top-of-the-line 2021 Nissan Rogue Platinum. We expect 2022 pricing to fall close to 2021’s.

What does the future hold: Having just come off a full redesign for the 2021 model year, the future for the Nissan Rogue is bright–it should continue with only minor updates for several more model years before a more significant refresh to update technology and styling. See 2022 Nissan Rogue models for sale near you

Base Price: $25,335 / Find out more about the 2022 Nissan Rogue Sport

What we like: Strong value; good standard infotainment and safety tech; nimble handling.

What we would change: Underwhelming engine; so-so fuel economy; tight back seat space.

Overview: The 2022 Nissan Rogue Sport is a subcompact SUV that fits between the slightly larger Rogue and slightly smaller Kicks in Nissan’s lineup. Introduced to the U.S. market in 2017 and updated with better infotainment and more standard safety tech in 2019 and 2020, the Rogue Sport represents a strong value in Nissan’s lineup. Front-wheel drive is standard, and Intelligent AWD is available. All Rogue Sports get a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine rated for 141 hp and 147 lb-ft of torque, paired with an Xtronic continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). The 2022 Rogue Sport scores an EPA fuel economy estimate of 25 mpg city/32 mpg highway/28 mpg combined when equipped with front-wheel drive.

What’s new for 2022: Introduced to the U.S. in 2017, updated in 2019 and 2020, and with appearance updates and features added in 2021, the Nissan Rogue Sport is still quite new and its feature package rather fresh. Minor updates to available wheel options, equipment package configurations, and possibly new or updated technology features are the only likely changes for 2022.

Features and Technology: The 2022 Nissan Rogue Sport will likely offer the same trim lines as it has in 2021, including Rogue Sport S, Rogue Sport SV, and Rogue Sport SL. The SV trim level adds to the base spec Rogue Sport S with dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry, two extra tweeters for the audio system, LED turn indicators on the side mirrors, a silver-finished roof rack, heated front seats, remote start, and leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and more. The top-end Rogue Sport SL adds even more prestige with leather-appointed front seats, NissanConnect telematics with navigation, ProPilot Assist driver assistance tech, an around-view monitor, 19-inch alloy wheels, and more.

What does the future hold: The Nissan Rogue Sport may be due for a new generation-level update in the next several years. In the meantime, expect to see feature and technology updates each year, much like in 2021 and 2022. See 2022 Nissan Rogue Sport models for sale near you
