I too found loads of references to 42 pounds to the U.S. bushel, however as I pointed out my 48 pounds is the U.S. Federal standard, so I can't argue with that.

Besides both being rather fun, rarely used words, I honestly don’t know what each term means, so I usually just smile, nod, and point to what seems like the amount of peaches or apples I am looking for.
