Ray Allen played eighteen seasons in the NBA and established himself as one of the greatest shooters of all time.  He retired with records for the most three-pointers made in the regular season and in the postseason.  Ray was a hard worker who was a master at running off screens and getting to the spot where he could launch those accurate treys.  He was a key contributor to championship runs by both the Boston Celtics and the Miami Heat.

Awards and Honors

  • Playing college basketball for the University of Connecticut (UConn), Allen was selected NCAA AP All-America first team in 1995-96 and third team in 1994-95.  At UConn, Ray was named All-Big East twice as well as the Big East Player of the Year in 1996.
  • Ray retired with 2,973 career three-pointers, the most in NBA history.  The player nearest to him, Reggie Miller, was over 400 triples behind Allen with 2,560.
  • Allen was a two-time NBA champion.  In 2008 he teamed with Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce to win the title with the Boston Celtics.  Then, in 2013, Ray won another championship with a Miami Heat team that included LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh.
  • Ray was a ten-time NBA All-Star and a two-time All-NBA selection.  He was also named the NBA Player of the Week seven times during his career.
  • Allen won an Olympic gold medals with team USA in 2000 in Sydney, Australia.

  • In Game 6 of the 2013 NBA Finals, with the Miami Heat on the brink of elimination, Allen made a clutch three-pointer with five seconds left that tied the game.  This iconic shot propelled the Heat to victory in Game 6 and they went on to win Game 7 and capture the NBA championship against the San Antonio Spurs.  That Spurs team featured Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili, and Kawhi Leonard.
  • In 1998, Allen starred in the Spike Lee film “He Got Game” with Denzel Washington.  Allen played basketball player Jesus Shuttlesworth, whose father Jake tries to convince him to attend a particular college so that he can have the length of his prison sentence reduced.
