Whats it like living in studio city reddit

My ex livedin studio city so I lived with him for years, but I kept my hollywood apartment. I am a 30 year old woman.

I personally wouldn't move back to studio city. The pros were that, it was more calm and walkable. It has had a boom of better coffee shops and restaurants which I enjoyed when I lived there. The neighborhoods were cute and good for walks.
The things that turned me off to studio city were that things got really repetitive, same few places to go to all the time, then being surrounded by NoHo didn't offer anything I enjoyed to easily drive to. More 405 encounters. It got a lot hotter in the summer because it was the valley. My first car kept getting broken into (probably because of not being far from noho), my car after that was totaled on colfax because the drivers there are worse probably because of longer stretches of road. But Colfax and Ventura kept putting up cones to keep cars from cutting and people just can't figure it out. I had a lot of dashcam footage at the time from studio city shenanigans. It's "safer" but I had some awful encounters I had to run from and so did some other acquaintances. The vibe was definitely older which is maybe what you are looking for since you are 30 now. There are a lot of older people living there, it was their community and I've had them tell me that they didn't like how ventura is valet central and that it's getting transformed in the way that it has.

I'm not saying Hollywood is better, I will probably move somewhere more west but I would not go back to studio city. Since I had family here last week I was reminded how easy it was to go in any direction and find activities and entertainment while also being not as scorching hot as studio city was at the same time.

Good luck!

I'm in my early 20s and live in studio city. I really love it and I can walk to tons of bars, shops and even my grocery store. Because of the bar scene it skews a little younger, but there's still huge areas that are suburban and are family homes. I'm closer to Hollywood than Sherman oaks so it's a little closer to the "action." Rent isn't too bad either, seems like no matter where you look you end up spending about $1k/month. (About what I pay) but IMO studio city feels clear than Hollywood. Los feliz, silver lake and echo park

For a family, Studio City is the cleanest with the least crime and better schools and Ventura Blvd for endless leisure. Los Feliz comes in second place, where it's safe, relatively crime free, great restaurants on Vermont and Hillhurst but it's adjacent to Hollywood which, well, you know... and Silver Lake, is just Silver Lake, artsy and hipster with good bars and restaurants, but it borders potential crime neighborhoods.

Soo it’s technically a part of the Betty Dearing trail - people get confused because Betty Dearing is also named in the Wilacre/Fryman trail - this is not that. This is more noteably known as the rainforest trail, it resides along Fryman. I park at the bottom with everyone else, but the entrance to this is 15 minutes up the neighborhood on Iredell to the left, right before you reach the cul-de-sac. It’s a bit hidden if you’re not actively looking for it :p

Edit: more detail to get to trail

Hi! Late here, but saw this!

I just moved to Valley Village and I really love it. It's close to fun bars/restaurants either in North Hollywood or Studio City, and it's about a $5 Uber ride away.

My 1br is $1450, but they did remodeling to it, so they hiked up prices. It's really big (800~sq ft) and has parking. The building/neighborhood is super quiet and I feel really safe here.

I actually wanted to move to Pasadena, but ended up here. Pasadena was same price as my place, sometimes more. There's cool areas, but also sketchy ones. Friends of mine live off Fair Oaks a bit North of the freeway and have had issues with safety. Areas around Old Town or South Pasadena are pretty safe, but the more South you go the farther away from the freeway you are which can add on some travel time.

Noho (the whole area) - It's OK. Nothing special since it is a lot of valley strip mall filler that you can find in Van Nuys or Northridge. Some crime and low income neighborhoods but most of the central valley area is the same. Relatively cheap to live in.

Noho Arts District - This is the trendy south end part of Noho closer to studio city. All the fun and hang outs are here. Metro station is there and there are A LOT of new apartments that can offer discounts for moving in (that's what I did!). Kind of weird traffic flow given its triangular street layout. Try before you buy.

Studio City - Basically Ventura Blvd near the Cahuenga pass and universal studios (hence the name). It's OK and has lots of recreation and night life options. Lots of people from all over trying to make it in entertainment. The downside is that if you live here you are pretty much tied to Ventura blvd and everything there so if you don't like that scene day to day then reconsider. Also a little pricey for the valley but you might find something worthwhile.

Woodland Hills - Quiet neighborhood in the West side of the valley. Nothing exciting going on here but it has lots of conveniences and shopping. If you want the quiet area to live in and drive to the fun areas then this can work. A bit out of the way but it is not too far from much of LA.

Sherman Oaks - The middle ground neighborhood. Some recreation, close to the freeways, near the middle of the valley, convenient shopping centers. Nothing really stands out or stirs the imagination here but it is an all around decent area with few downsides.
