Where is hot in April for holiday

Q.  Where is hot in April?

A.  April is the start of the tourist season in the Mediterranean (22-24ºC) and a wonderful time to visit as resorts begin to open up. It’s a great month to be in the Arabian Gulf (33ºC) before the summer heat becomes oppressive. After Easter, you’ll find good value in the Caribbean (30ºC).

April is a cheap time of year to travel to get away for some spring sunshine. Conditions in the Mediterranean are wonderful, with warm temperatures and bright sunshine. Further afield, the weather in the Caribbean enjoys temperatures around 30°C and 8 or 9 hours of average daily sunshine.

Cyprus

Average temperature in April: 24ºC
Hours of daily sunshine: 9
Flying time from UK: 4 hours 30 minutes

You can find warm weather in April across the Mediterranean although nights tend to be a little chilly, and the sea will be cool for swimming. For the hottest weather, your best bet is to head to the more southerly Mediterranean destinations such as Cyprus which has great hotels and plenty of flights from across the UK. To escape the busy resorts and enjoy the beauty of the countryside, rent one of these villas in Cyprus.

Also consider: the Greek island of Crete which is also very southerly and is warm in April. See the latest offers on boutique accommodation from i-escape.

Malta and Gozo

Average temperature in April: 22ºC
Hours of daily sunshine: 8
Flying time from UK: 3 hours

If you want somewhere sunny, warm and packed with historical sites, try Malta. It has a great climate in April along with its sister island, Gozo. To reach Gozo you take a short ferry ride from Malta – there’s no airport and that’s part of the island’s charm as it’s much quieter and slower-paced. See the latest special offers.

Also consider: the Greek island of Paxos. It also doesn’t have an airport – most visitors fly into neighbouring Corfu and transfer by ferry. Our researchers found these are the best villas.

Sardinia

Average temperature in April: 21ºC
Hours of daily sunshine: 7
Flying time from UK: 2 hours 40 minutes

For a quiet sunny destination in April, head to the (surprisingly large) Italian island of Sardinia. As the Italians all take their holidays at the same time in August, it’s almost deserted at this time of year, but the weather is gorgeous. Stay at the fabulous Forte Village Resort which has a superb beach, spa, choice of hotels and restaurants and amazing sports facilities. Rent a car because this is a great island to explore. Find where’s hot in Italy in April.

Also consider: the three hotels of the MarBella Collection in mainland Greece and on the island of Corfu. See more about hottest islands in Greece in April.

Seville

Average temperature in April: 25ºC
Hours of daily sunshine: 8
Flying time from UK: 2 hours 45 minutes

Close to the Costa de la Luz, Seville is Spain’s hottest city (it’s pretty much unbearable in August but wonderful in April) and it’s a fantastic place for a quick getaway. The home of tapas and flamenco, it’s packed with historical sites, authentic bars and restaurants and charming squares lined with orange trees. If you go in Semana Santa, the week leading up to Easter, you’ll witness dramatic street celebrations. See where’s hot in Spain in April.

Also consider: Dubrovnik in Croatia, Sorrento on the Amalfi Coast of Italy and Palma, the stylish capital of Mallorca. The Easter celebrations in Florence are particularly atmospheric.

Marrakech

Average temperature in April: 25ºC
Hours of daily sunshine: 9
Flying time from UK: 3 hours

Getting to Morocco is easy and cheap with lots of flights to Marrakech where you can laze in the sun, explore the narrow winding streets of the souk, drink fresh orange juice on rooftop bars and dine in fabulous French and Moroccan restaurants. Try to stay in one of the stunning converted riads in the medina.

Also consider: the Algarve where it’s 20ºC with 8 hours of daily sun. Perfect weather for a fly-drive. You can explore the beautiful coast and countryside away from the resorts and stay in some of these historic pousadas which won top marks from our research team.

If you want something more adventurous, Jordan is perfect in April: 23ºC and 10 hours of daily sunshine, and only five hours flying time. This 8-day Splendours of Jordan tour includes the rock-carved city of Petra, the Dead Sea, ancient Jerash and the deserts and dunes of Wadi Rum.

Average temperature in April: 33ºC
Hours of daily sunshine: 10
Flying time from UK: 7 hours

If you want somewhere a bit warmer, the Arabian Gulf will be around 33°C in April with 10 hours of sunshine – a little too warm for vigorous sightseeing but perfect if you’re staying in a luxurious hotel. Dubai is the best known destination but you can combine it with the beautiful Sultanate of Oman for a taste of old Arabia. See the latest offers.

Also consider: neighbouring Abu Dhabi which is rapidly becoming a rival to Dubai, but with a tad more culture, and Qatar which combines world-class luxury hotels with thrilling activities from dune bashing to sky diving.

The Gambia

Average temperature in April: 33ºC
Hours of daily sunshine: 10
Flying time from UK: 6 hours

It’s six hours flying time to The Gambia on the West Coast of Africa where you’ll find friendly English-speaking people, a coastline of sandy beaches, wildlife and interesting excursions. Weather is superb: 10 hours of daily sun and temperatures of 33ºC. The resorts are cheap: food, drink, travel are all inexpensive. See deals in April.

Also consider: the Cape Verde islands which lie midway between Africa and Brazil – both geographically and culturally. Also a six-hour direct flight from the UK.

Barbados

Average temperature in April: 33ºC
Hours of daily sunshine: 9
Flying time from UK: 9 hours

The Caribbean is perfect for April holidays: great weather is pretty much guaranteed. Easter is popular with families – and prices reflect that – but if you avoid the school holidays you are in low season, and you should find some great deals. Barbados has a superb choice of hotels and lots of direct flights. We particularly recommend Sandals Resorts which has two superb all-inclusive resorts on a pristine beach. See more details on Caribbean weather in April and find the hottest Caribbean islands.

Also consider: the Cayman Islands which have great hotels and superb snorkeling and diving.

Maldives

Average temperature in April: 32ºC
Hours of daily sunshine: 8
Flying time from UK: 10 hours

The paradise islands of the Maldives are at their best in April with temperatures of 32°C and lots of guaranteed sunshine. Each beachfront hotel is on its own private island, so you’ll instantly feel pampered and secluded.

Also consider: the Seychelles for a purely desert island experience. Mauritius usually gets a little rain in April but temperatures still hold around 28°C. It’s a popular choice for a honeymoon.

Ko Samui

Average temperature in April: 32ºC
Hours of daily sunshine: 8
Flying time from UK: 14 hours via Bangkok

In Thailand, both Koh Samui (32°C; 8 hours of sunshine) and Phuket (33°C; 8 hours of sunshine) are great in April. If you want to do more than just lie on a beach in Thailand, I recommend Experience Travel Group which can put together thrilling private tours of jungle, temples and Thai food..

Also consider: Vietnam, where the beach resort of Nha Trang enjoys temperatures of 32°C.
