Where should I go for St Patricks Day in Sydney?

It really doesn’t get much more Irish than St. Patrick’s Day in The Rocks.

Kick off the fun at Sydney's oldest Irish pub

Sydney’s oldest Irish pub, The Merc, is back with it’s annual St Patrick’s Day breakfast! Tuck into a traditional Irish breakfast, Irish coffee and 2.5 hour beverage pack while enjoying traditional Irish music, harpist and Sydney Irish band, Blackwater. The breakfast runs from 7:30am - 10:30am and tickets are limited, so book here!

Following the breakfast, merriment at The Merc will spill out onto George St, with an outdoor stage, pop-up bars, food stalls and live music available for free all day from 10am! Hitting the stage will be Irish acts Shindig (12pm), Shaylee Wilde (4pm) and The Soniks (7:30pm). There’s surely no better spot for a Guinness (or two) and traditional St Paddy’s Day celebrations!

If you haven’t quite celebrated enough by the weekend, The Merc will throw another street party on Sunday, 20 March, with live music all day from 10am, pop-up bars and tasty food stalls. Sunday’s line-up includes Hairy Lemon Irish Duo (11am), and the return of The Soniks (3pm) and Shaylee Wilde (7pm).

Find a green treat and delicious eats at The Rocks

Venues throughout The Rocks will also be celebrating with the very best in delicious food creations. Stop by Munich Brauhaus on Thursday, 17 March for a pint (or many) of Guinness, listen to a live Irish band from 4-9pm, feast on a menu of Irish dishes as well as games, challenges and competitions! The Australian Heritage Hotel will also have the Guinness flowing on the day, as well as live Irish music, green burgers and other Irish treats. If you’re after a view with your pint, The Glenmore is hosting rooftop celebrations from Thursday 17 to Sunday 20 March - find the hidden pot of gold to win a $100 bar tab! Or find your fortune at the Fortune of War Hotel, which will offer Irish Coffee Frozen Martinis, pulled pork and cabbage slaw burgers, beef & Guinness stews, Irish Nachos and more! Lastly, for something sweet, stop by The Tea Cosy for Colcannon bacon scones, Jamesons hot toddies, Baileys hot chocolates and Lyons and Barry’s teas!

Continue the festivities at First Fleet Park

To keep the festivities going, on Sunday 20 March First Fleet Park will be home to a festival of Irish fun, right on Circular Quay! Bigger than ever this year, the festival will kick off at 11am with a traditional smoking ceremony, and will include live music all day, Irish language sessions, Irish dancing, face painting, handicrafts, festival bars, food stalls and more! There will also be no better spot to watch the St Patrick’s Day Parade, making its way through the precinct from 10:30am!

Covid-safe information

We want to reassure you that the team at The Rocks are monitoring the situation and Health NSW advice, and implementing measures to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of all visitors. See our full coronavirus update here.
