There are 13 volumes for CoTE which is 1-11 and 2 side volumes 4.5 and 7.5 which aren't really side volumes and are crucial to the story.

V1,V3 and 4-9 with both .5 volumes have been completely translated. V2 was dropped due to official release. Please support and buy the official paperback/digital copies as well.

For the guys who just finished the anime, no you don't need to read the first 3 volumes per se but you can they are quite good and a very fun read. The translations for v2 are incomplete but hey, good news is that CoTE has been licensed by Seven Seas Entertainment.

Currently 1st 2 Volumes are out with 3rd coming in October and rest in every 3 month gap most probably.

I've looked and the most popular site(the first link) had reviews saying basically "it isn't the same as the anime, it's like he has split personalities". There was also one that said something like "you adapted this from the anime"? Basically it sounded like someone wrote a story based on the anime? The reviews might not have matched up with it or maybe it just wasn't actually the first volume. But I'd appreciate it if anyone knows where I can read it online. Normally I read light novels on my phone using mandrasoft. I also have novel library but it has way less chapters compared to mandrasoft for almost all light novels. At least when I last checked. It might have improved since then. I've checked if novel library has classroom of the elite which it does. However the volumes are in parts and they're mixed around and it didn't seem like there was even a volume 7-9 on there. I've watched the anime already so I know what happens except for whatever differences there were between the two from volumes 1-3. I had read somewhere on here something about the first few volumes were fan translated and something about how the translated ones were cringey, not sure how true that is for all the volumes

Don’t read the manga.

You will start at volume 4 if you have already watched the anime.

You will see volumes called .5 (ex 4.5 7.5 11.5), you need to read them, they are important to the plot.

You will see things called SS(short/side stories), those are also important to the plot, read them. These are also from the point of view of the name in the title of the SS.

Ayanokouji will seem different, it’s because the anime didn’t portray him properly.

Characters who seem important in the anime won’t be as important in the LN.(Horikita)
