Maybe it’s never too late to be thin. Director Zara Hayes seems to be getting the message across in her inspiring comedy film ‘Poms’. ‘The story is told in a dignified way, sometimes funny and humorous in a mix. Featuring actors with evergreen characters such as Diane Keaton, Jacki Weaver, and Pam Grier, and guided by moving dots, the film shows a powerful connection to the characters’ lives. Keaton works as Martha, a cancer-fighting woman, who stopped her treatment and moved from a big city to a small Georgia town to lead a life of violence.

However, his original plan backfired when something very exciting came up. Martha finds a friend and confidant in community manager Vicki, and Vicki rekindles Martha’s old love of cheerleading. Together they started taking cheerleading group tests and the experience had a profound effect on their lives. Most of the film comes from the peaceful and united community of Sun Springs, Georgia, where Martha travels.

Poms Filming Locations

‘Poms’ were shot entirely in the US, and especially in Georgia. Shooting began in July 2018 and was completed shortly after. Many cinemas took place in the province, the director chose to shoot the location. Also known as ‘Southern Hollywood’, Georgia has gradually become a bustling center of film and television production for its many benefits.

The state shows the beauty of the place, the cool climate and the repository of filmmakers who can attract products. In addition, the profitable tax debt can add to the beauty of the universe. Atlanta, Georgia

Most of the sequence would have been shot in Atlanta and its suburbs, the capital of Georgia. Staff recorded a lot in the region to live the story. Some internal sequences were shot in the city. However, because the story is set in urban areas, the group moved to the suburbs of Atlanta to conquer most of the remote areas. The manufacturing sector played a major role in the Poms shooting incident in the towns of Hampton, a county southeast of Metro Atlanta.

The borough of Hampton is 17 miles from downtown Atlanta and 11 miles from Griffin. In addition to the city’s cultural heritage and historical significance, the region also proves to be a fertile area for recording due to its resources and availability of technical hands.

The highlight of the film is the retired community of Sun Springs, the place where Martha travels. You may be surprised to learn that the actors and staff shoot scenes set in Sun Springs in the retirement community called the Sun City Peachtree Active Retirement Community. Packed with state-of-the-art entertainment, the facility is located at 123 Creekside Court in the Griffin area, about an hour from downtown Atlanta.

Diane Keaton is the star of the Poms movie, where ladies in a retirement community start a cheerleading group. But Poms is based on a true story about a group of ladies called the Sun City Poms – and The List got to speak to them! Read on to learn the true story of the Poms, as well as a few of their secrets to staying young.

1. The True Story of the Poms

Let’s start off with learning a little about the true story of the Poms. “The Sun City Poms started in 1979 as a cheerleading squad for a world champion […] women’s softball team here in Sun City known as the Sun City Saints,” shares group member Greta Paulson. And these golden gals aren’t feeling their age one bit! “When you think of somebody as 80, you think of somebody with a lot of grey hair sitting around knitting or crocheting,” says Tommie Sebring. “I’m very, very active – I travel a lot and pom keeps you really going.” Now they’re sharing their secrets to staying young, so keep on reading.

2. Find Your Passion

Their first bit of advice is finding your passion. “I had been in Sun City for five years, and I had tried different things and nothing really stuck,” admits Sally David. “Then I found out about the Sun City Poms I said that’s my calling!” Pat Weber shares the similar sentiments: “The Poms are my life. My husband passed away almost 15 years ago and I was new in Sun City. I simply made up my mind that this was going to be my life, and it’s been a wonderful life.” Um, can you say heartwarming?!

3. Stay Active

Their next secret is to stay active. “I was diagnosed with severe osteoarthritis in my late 20s,” shares Gloria Tolla. “Every decade that I’ve gotten older, it’s been harder and harder for me to walk and do just activities of daily living. Joining the Poms has kept me active. I forget about my pain, so to me the Poms have given me a whole new life.”  You go, girl!

4. Don’t Give Up – No Matter Your Age!

Once you find an activity you love, remember never to give up – no matter your age. “I’m the oldest on in the Poms,” admits Ginger Price. “If I make a mistake, they tolerate me. I just say, well – what do you expect? I’m old!” You betta work!

5. Stay Social

And finally, they say you’ve gotta stay social. “We’ve just become a huge family,” says Ruth Pharris. “It’s very rewarding,”. Aw!
