Who is opening for car seat headrest?

US indie-rock outfit Car Seat Headrest have announced the cancellation of a handful of American tour dates due to ongoing health issues. The group’s frontman, Will Toledo, took to social media to announce the news late last week.

“After another month of struggling to regain my health, I am currently forced to face the fact that my body lacks the basic levels of functionality necessary to leave the house most days, let alone embark on a tour,” Toledo wrote. As  a result, the group have cancelled their appearance at this weekend’s When We Were Young festival, along with a run of shows in California.

This isn’t the first time that Car Seat Headrest have been forced to pull out of tour dates this year, with headline shows and festival spots having been affected with some regularity since Toledo contracted COVID in early April. After briefly making his return to the touring circuit later that month, Toledo was forced to miss more dates after an initial diagnosis of what was “most likely stomach flu”.

In early September, Toledo revealed that the illness was in fact “a recurrent case of ‘histamine intolerance'”, described as “a post-covid condition which involves heavy nausea, fatigue, dizziness, and a ‘buzzing’ nervous system”.

Currently, Car Seat Headrest’s website lists no upcoming tour dates, and it’s unclear when or if these recently-cancelled dates will be rescheduled. The group last visited Australia in early 2018 following the release of their Twin Fantasy (Face To Face).

The Avalanches Cancel Tour Dates Due To “Serious Illness”

Car Seat Headrest has announced that he’s cancelled his upcoming US tour and performances at the When We Were Young festival due to health issues.

The band, fronted by Will Toledo, were set to begin a tour tomorrow (October 20) in Pioneertown, California which was set to run for the next week and incorporate three sets at Las Vegas’ When We Were Young.

Taking to Twitter, Toledo revealed that ongoing health issues have forced the cancellation of the tour. He wrote: “After another month of struggling to regain my health, I am currently forced to face the fact that my body lacks the basic levels of functionality necessary to leave the house most days, let alone embark on a tour.

“As a result, we are unfortunately forced to pull out of the When We Were Young festival dates, and cancel our upcoming California tour. Refunds for our headlining dates will be available at your point of purchase. Stay safe, everyone.”

The first edition of When We Were Young will take place this weekend (October 21-22) at the Las Vegas Festival Grounds, returning for a third edition on October 29.

The 2022 festival, described as “an epic line-up of emo and rock bands from the past two decades”, was announced earlier this year with My Chemical Romance and Paramore topping the bill.

After the initial date on October 22 sold out, the festival added the same line-up the following day at Las Vegas Festival Grounds, and then a third date on October 29 with mostly the same billing again.

As well as the two headliners, Bring Me The Horizon, Bright Eyes, The Used and more will also play across the festival’s five stages (Black, Pink, Checker, Stripes and Neon Tent).

Though this year’s festival is still to take place, the line-up for 2023 has already been unveiled, with Blink-182 and Green Day announced as headliners and the likes of 30 Seconds To Mars, The Offspring, Good Charlotte and Rise Against on the bill for October 21 2023.

As we approach the end of the year (finally!), some of our favorite bands are already giving us things to look forward to. Car Seat Headrest is one of them, announcing a North American tour for 2022. Support for the tour will be handled by Bartees Strange for the U.S. dates and Floral Tattoo for Canada.

The tour, which kicks off in St. Paul, Minnesota, in March, will make stops in Brooklyn, Philadelphia, Atlanta and other major cities before finishing their United States run in Boulder, Colorado. The band will then cross the border into Canada for their final date in Vancouver, British Columbia, at the end of May.

In a statement released on the band’s social media, they said:

You are formally invited to a venue near you to partake in The CAR SEAT HEADREST MASQUERADE TOUR for a night of music, dancing, and identity loss.

We are deeply excited to crawl out of our pit and onto the spot lit stage once more. For a few hours on a spring night, you too can slip out of your mind and into the ever-changing shared world of the theater.

We ask that you wear a mask (you know which kind) and invite you to accouter yourself in whatever further costumery you please. Proof of COVID-19 vaccine or a negative test will be required. At some venues only proof of vaccine will be accepted – check your local venue to receive details.

The announcement comes after the ambitious Making a Door Less Open, which saw Will Toledo and co. take a more experimental route with electronic textures. The band has also released two EPs: MADLO: Remixes and MADLO: Influences.
