Update 12:18 a.m. Alexander Volkanovski wins unanimous decision (50-45, 50-45, 50-45).

Just a perfect performance from Volkanovski, who dominated the 25 minutes as much as you’ll ever see against a No. 1 contender. The champ now must be considered one of the best pound-for-pound MMA combatants on the planet.

UFC 276 will have the featherweight championship on the line as the title holder Alexander Volkanovski takes on No. 1 Max Holloway for the belt at UFC 276 live from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday night. It will be the third bout between these combatants, with the first two both victories for Volkanovski by decision.

Here are the latest odds from DraftKings Sportsbook from the bout, and we’ll update this article with live round-by-round scoring as a winner is determined.

Alexander Volkanovski vs. Max Holloway round-by-round results

Round 1: 10-9 Volkanovski

A total stand-up round, but the champion landed several scoring blows with both the left and the right. He’s talking during the round and saying he’s too quick for Holloway, and so far he’s right.

Round 2: 10-9 Volkanovski

A huge cut has opened right over Holloway’s left eye, and unless his corner can get it stopped we’re not going the distance. Besides one takedown attempt by Volkanovski, he simply dominated with the stand up using mostly punches. A 64-40 lead on significant strikes for the champ so far, and it feels like an even more dominating fight than that stat so far.

Round 3: 10-9 Volkanovski

More of the same in a clinic of boxing from the man who has already won this matchup twice. There is no room and not a ton of activity from Holloway, and now that we’ve crossed the Scorecard Rubicon, he’s going to have to do something dramatic to win this fight.

Round 4: 10-9 Volkanovski

The technical show from Volkanovski continues, as a leaking Holloway continually gets opened up as his cut men do their best. It’s 145-108 for the champion on significant strikes, but the much more damaging ones have come from him as well.

Round 5: 10-9 Volkanovski

Five rounds that looked like clones of each other. A flawless performance from Volkanovski, who puts himself in the conversation as one of the best pound-for-pound MMA combatants on the planet. The trilogy is complete, and it’s a sweep for the Australian.

Alexander Volkanovski had called it a “legacy” fight, a chance to put an end to his rivalry with Max Holloway and to stamp his claim for immortality in the UFC’s featherweight division.

For Holloway, at one point considered the clear challenger to Jose Aldo’s claim as the greatest ever in the division, this was also about “legacy”.

And so, when the two entered the Octagon at UFC 276 on Saturday night and their eyes met they both nodded in a show of respect, understanding of just how big a moment this was.

In the end it was Volkanovski’s moment and the Australian never looked like giving it up, putting on an all-round masterclass to take a unanimous decision victory (50-45 x3) over Holloway.

What is also unanimous now is that there is no need for a fourth fight, no need for Volkanovski’s biggest critics to bring up the second fight as a reason to doubt the Australian’s greatness.

As recently-inducted Hall of Fame member Daniel Cormier put it: “Volkanovski is so on a different level tonight”.

“No one can bring me down anymore,” Volkanovski said.

What made Volkanovski’s triumph even more impressive was vision of the champion walking down the tunnel post-fight, revealing that he broke his hand in the second round.

“It’s not good,” Volkanovski laughed.

“I’m pretty sure it’s broken. I know when I break stuff. It was broken in round two.”

His confidence was at a completely different level too, with Volkanovski taunting Holloway in the opening round as he gracefully danced around the octagon, using his speed to full advantage.

“I’m too fast for him,” the Australian said.

“It seems like Volkanovski is faster than ever, and it seems like Max is a step behind,” Joe Rogan said in commentary.

“Even a step behind his previous performance.”

Volkanovski was the quicker of the two in the opening round, more effective in his shots, almost toying with Holloway as if to let him know he has much more left in him.

The Australian then opened the second with a strong left hook and right hand before both fighters clinched, with the Australian pushing Holloway up towards the cage.

Holloway responded with a few body shots before Volkanovski elbowed back, later meeting the challenger with a right counter as the American was badly cut open.

“Oh, that’s bad,” a relaxed and in-control Volkanovski said, still using his speed to dominate.

Heading into the third Holloway needed to increase the volume but that was easier said than done against Volkanovski, who was faultless and not giving the challenger any room to move.

The pair traded body kicks early, with Volkanovski then landing a big right hand and following it up with a left soon after.

Not even the pro-Holloway crowd could do anything to stop Volkanovski, with a “Let’s go Alex” chant at one point breaking out as Volkanovski made the former champion look a shadow of the fighter that dominated Calvin Kattar.

With Volkanovski comfortably taking the first three rounds, Holloway needed a finish to be any chance of reclaiming his belt.

But as Joe Rogan and Daniel Cormier said in commentary, it was not as if Holloway was quite prepared to commit to go for it, “touching” Volkanovski more than throwing anything of note.

Volkanovski continued to use his jab effectively to disrupt Holloway’s rhythm, again proving himself one of if not the most well-rounded fighter the division has ever seen.

In the end there was no crowning moment for Holloway, no decisive punch that brought the Las Vegas crowd to its feet.

Instead, for brief periods, there was just stunned silence, an appreciation that they were witnessing something truly special from the greatest of all time.

“This will be the day that he truly etched himself in the record books,” Cormier said.

“He will have done it in a way that there will be no more questions.”

Well, there is one – after such a dominant performance, what will Volkanovski do next?

The featherweight champion gave a pretty clear answer to that question post-fight, declaring his intentions to move up to the lightweight division and become a double champ.

“I want to be busy,” he said.

“I don’t think this division itself can keep me busy. I want to move up, go for double champ, then I’ll keep two divisions busy.”
