The upcoming Evangelion: 3.0+1.11 Thrice Upon A Time Blu-ray and DVD release will include a special feature video titled Evangelion: 3.0 (−46h). The video is currently in production.

The format of the title, which is similar to the Evangelion 3.0 (-120 min.) manga prequel for Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo, suggests that Evangelion: 3.0 (−46h) is a short anime prequel for that movie.

The Blu-ray, DVD, and limited Blu-ray+4K Ultra HD Blu-ray versions of Evangelion: 3.0+1.11 will be released on March 8, 2023. Evangelion: 3.0 (−46h) is included with all of them alongside other special features.

Evangelion: 3.0+1.11 premiered in Japanese theaters as Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 on March 8, 2021, with an updated version titled Evangelion: 3.0+1.01 released on June 12, 2021. Evangelion: 3.0+1.01 was streamed internationally via Amazon Prime on August 13, 2021 and will receive a limited theatrical release in North America this December. The fourth and final film in the Rebuild of Evangelion series that began in 2007, Evangelion: 3.0+1.01 earned 10.28 billion yen (~US$71 million) at the Japanese box office, making it the 38th highest-grossing movie in the country.

GKIDS describes Evangelion: 3.0+1.01 as:

Misato and her anti-NERV group Wille arrive at Paris, a city now red from core-ization. Crew from the flagship Wunder land on a containment tower. They only have 720 seconds to restore the city. When a horde of NERV Evas appear, Mari’s improved Eva Unit 8 must intercept. Meanwhile, Shinji, Asuka, and Rei (Provisional Name) wander about Japan.

The Khara-produced Rebuild of Evangelion movies are a retelling of the 1995 Neon Genesis Evangelion series. The previous film in the quadrilogy, Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo, was released in 2012.

Evangelion: 3.0+1.01‘s staff includes Evangelion creator Hideaki Anno as chief director and scriptwriter, Atsushi Nishigori (The Idolmaster and Darling in the Franxx director) as chief animation director, Deho Gallery’s Tatsuya Kushida (Evangelion 1.0 and Evangelion 2.0 co-art director) as art director, T2 studio’s Tooru Fukushi (Rebuild of Evangelion) as photography director, Daisuke Onitsuka (Rebuild of Evangelion co-CG director) as CG director, and Shirou Sagisu (SSSS.Gridman, Neon Genesis Evangelion) as the music composer.

GKIDS announced today that it has acquired the North American theatrical and home video rights for Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time. A Blu-ray release is expected to be announced later this year.

Official label statement: The highly anticipated fourth and final installment of the new theatrical "Rebuild" editions of the EVANGELION franchise, EVANGELION:3.0+1.01 THRICE UPON A TIME was released in Japanese theaters in 2021, where it was a critical and box office success, becoming the highest-grossing film of the year with 10.28 billion (~$85 million) in local box office. GKIDS plans to release the anticipated film in theaters in late 2022, marking the first time EVANGELION:3.0+1.01 THRICE UPON A TIME will be available in theaters in North America since its domestic release. A release on home entertainment platforms will follow, with dates to be announced.

Created by Hideaki Anno, the NEON GENESIS EVANGELION franchise is considered one of the most influential animated sagas of all time. Since the 1995 premiere of the original television series, the story of teenager Shinji Ikari has remained one of the most iconic titles in animation history, and a global pop culture phenomenon.

Following the conclusion of the beloved 1995 television show, the legendary project received new life as the EVANGELION movie series. The theatrical film series began with EVANGELION:1.11 YOU ARE (NOT) ALONE (2007), followed by EVANGELION:2.22 YOU CAN (NOT) ADVANCE (2009), EVANGELION:3.33 YOU CAN (NOT) REDO (2012), and culminating in the finale EVANGELION:3.0+1.01 THRICE UPON A TIME.

Last year, GKIDS released the original twenty-six episode television series, NEON GENESIS EVANGELION, as well as the films EVANGELION:DEATH (TRUE)2 and THE END OF EVANGELION on Blu-ray and digital download-to-own for the first time in North America. GKIDS also handles North American distribution for creator Hideaki Anno's prior series, NADIA: The Secret of Blue Water.

"GKIDS is honored to represent the epic conclusion of a story over 25 years in the making," said GKIDS President David Jesteadt. "Like with so many others, EVANGELION was critical in expanding my idea of what animation could be, and I look forward to joining other fans in theaters to celebrate the end of the saga with EVANGELION:3.0+1.01 THRICE UPON A TIME."

Just out of curiosity from someone not in the know on this series, why do they have such weirdly convoluted titles and numbers?

Ecstatic at this news. I wonder if they'll try to stay close to the packaging for Funimation's release of 1-3, and if they'll use Amazon's dub.

I can't imagine GKIDs not releasing a box set with all 4 films. If they've managed to get all of the original Evangelion with their last box set (lack of Fly me to the Moon withstanding) then there's no reason they wouldn't be able to do so with the Rebuild films.
