In Minecraft, players have access to tons of resources that allow them to improve their lifestyle in the Overworld. Many of them are found in the forms of ores. This includes resources like Redstone, Copper, Diamond, Iron and more. Another resource that is commonly found a lot in the popular Mojang title is Gold. To mine Gold from its Ore, players will need an Iron, Diamond or Netherite pickaxe. Each Gold Ore will drop one Raw Gold, which can then be smelted to create Gold Ingot. These Ingots can then be used in the creation of armor, and many other important items. In Minecraft, a Gold Ore attempts to generate four times per chunk, which is a 16 x 16 segment of the world that extends all the way down to the bedrock up to a height of 256 blocks. They will be found in a blob of 9 Gold Ores, and in version 1.18, these blobs are found within the ranges of -64 to 32. However, the best level to find them is -16, with the chances of generation decreasing as players move away from this level. With such a massive range for players to work with, it's better for them to try their hand at finding Gold underground, as they won't have to worry about the air exposure causing a problem for them. Currently, players have a ton of option with regards to their mining methods, which includes strip mining or mining at a straight line at level 16, as it has the most chance to generate Ores. Other than that, players can also employ the help of caves, as the Gold Ores tend to stick out to players on the floor and walls, and moreover, it removes the hassle of having to mine every block in strip mining. Using these methods, Minecraft players can mine a ton of Ores, which they can then use in different ways. For the "list" of ores, see Ore. For the "raw" variant, see Raw Gold. Gold ore is a rare mineral block found underground. Deepslate gold ore is a variant of gold ore that can generate in deepslate and tuff blobs. Obtaining[]Breaking[]Gold ore drops as raw gold if mined by an iron pickaxe or higher. If mined by any other tool, it drops nothing. Mining with a Silk Touch pickaxe drops itself. It is affected by Fortune enchantment, dropping 1–2, 1–3, or 1–4 raw gold respectively with Fortune I, II, and III.
Natural generation[]For gold ore distribution, see Ore § Overworld. Gold ore can generate in the Overworld in the form of blobs. In Java Edition gold ore attempts to generate 4 times per chunk, in blobs of size 9, from levels -64 to 32, in all biomes. It is most likely to be found around layer -16, becoming less common toward either end of the range. Gold ore is also less likely to be exposed to air; 50% of ore blocks that would generate exposed do not generate. There is an additional blob of size 9 that may generate uniformly between -64 and -32 with the same 50% air exposure rate. In badlands biomes, gold ore attempts to generate 50 times per chunk, from levels 32 to 256 uniformly, in blobs of size 9. This extra gold ore in badlands biomes will generate regardless of exposure to air. Gold ore can replace stone, granite, diorite, andesite, tuff, and deepslate. Any gold ore that replaces tuff or deepslate will become deepslate gold ore. In Bedrock Edition, gold ore attempts to generate in two batches. The first batch generates 4 times per chunk in blobs of size 9, from levels -64 to 32. It is most likely to be found around layer -16, becoming less common toward either end of the range. The second batch generates in 1/2 chunks in blobs of size 9 that generate uniformly between -64 and -48. There also extra batch of gold ore in badlands biome that generates 50 times per chunk in blobs of size 9, from 32 to 256 uniformly. Gold ore is also less likely to be exposed to air: 50% of ore blocks from the first and second batch will not generate. The extra batch in badlands will generate regardless of exposure to air. Gold ore can replace stone, granite, diorite, andesite, and deepslate. Gold ore that replaces deepslate will become deepslate gold ore. Usage[]Smelting ingredient[]Piglins[]Piglins become hostile toward players who mine gold ore, even if the player is wearing golden armor. Piglins also run toward any gold ores on the ground, and inspect it for 6 to 8 seconds before putting it in their inventory. Note Blocks[]Gold ore can be placed under note blocks to produce "bass drum" sounds.
