Chiefs vs. Steelers updates, live coverage

The Kansas City Chiefs (No. 2 seed) host the Pittsburgh Steelers (No. 7 seed) on Sunday Night Football at Arrowhead Stadium for the AFC Wild Card Playoffs.

In Week 16, Kansas City defeated Pittsburgh 36-10 at the same venue, so Mike Tomlin and Ben Roethlisberger are adopting a "nothing-to-lose" mentality for the post-season matchup. Patrick Mahomes will look to reach the Divisional round for the fourth time in his career.

FINAL SCORE - Steelers 21-42 Chiefs

Roethlisberger started the final drive of his career by dropping the snap, but luckily, Snell picked up the ball. Snell got a first down the next play before Big Ben was nearly picked.

A few completions later, and with the 2-minute warning in the rear view mirror, Roethlisberger ended the final drive of his career with a first-down completion just five yards shy of the end zone.

4TH QTR - 4:24 - Ben Roethlisberger on the field for the last time in his career

Chiefs succesfully recovered an onside kick by Steelers for Mahomes to start the drive on the 50-yard line. Mahomes couldn't lead his side into the red zone, ending the drive with a punt by Tommy Townsend.

Big Ben will take the field in what could be his last drive as a Steeler. Roethlisberger will likely retire from the NFL after the season comes to an end.

4TH QTR - 7:36 - Steelers inch closer on scoreboard with Washington TD

On 4th & 1, Benny Snell Jr. rushed for a first down on his first carry of the night, but an offensive penalty put Big Ben on 1st & 20. Roethlisberger then threw a pick, but got saved by a 15-yard penalty for roughing the passer.

A few plays later, Steelers found themselves on the opponent's 20 on 4th & 2, keeping the drive going with a first down catch by Johnson. Washington ended the 15-play drive (75 yards) with a TD catch to inch closer on the scoreboard.

4TH QTR - 14:13 - Trick play leads to Kelce TD pass

Chiefs went 75 yards in 9 plays, culminating with a TD catch by Pringle courtesy of Kelce. The trick play puts Chiefs up by 28 points.

END OF 3RD QTR - Steelers 14-35 Chiefs

Chiefs aren't taking their foot off the gas, with Mahomes leading his side to 1st & GOAL to start the final quarter. Mahomes has 402 passing yards on 29 of 38 completions, plus 30 rushing yards.

3RD QTR - 4:10 - Big Ben throws his first TD pass of the night

Chase Claypool caught his first ball of the night to pick up a first down. Smith-Schuster moved the chains to set up 3rd & 4 before Big Ben found rookie Pat Freiermuth to enter Kansas City territory.

On 3rd & 3, Smith-Schuster converted a first down catch to extend the drive and James Washington caught his first ball of the night to enter the red zone. Johnson held on to an end zone pass from Big Ben for Pittsburgh's first offensive TD of the game.

3RD QTR - 9:14 - Chiefs force fumble, Hill scores TD

Willie Gay stripped the ball from the Pittsburgh player and Frank Clark recovered it to set up the TD drive. Mahomes passed the ball 31 yards to Hill for his first TD of the night after being denied a moment prior. It's Mahomes' fifth touchdown pass of the game.

3RD QTR - 10:13 - 20 unanswered points by Chiefs

Chiefs received to start the second half, and a play after getting sacked, Mahomes completed a pass to Kelce on 2nd & 20 to make it 3rd & 12. McKinnon picked up a first down to set up 1st & GOAL.

Hill dove in for the score on 2nd & GOAL to seemingly end the 8-play drive (68 yards), but official review ruled him down inches short of the end zone. On 3rd & GOAL, Mahomes completed the TD pass to Nick Allegretti.

HALFTIME - Steelers 7-21 Chiefs

Ben Roethlisberger has accumulated an insignificant 24 first-half passing yards on 5 of 14 completions. Patrick Mahomes threw an interception early on, but added three touchdown passes since that turnover, recording 241 first-half passing yards on 19 of 28 completions.

2ND QTR - 00:13 - Travis Kelve adds another TD for Chiefs before halftime

Chiefs advanced 80 yards in six plays, ending with a Kelce touchdown after a perfect pass by Mahomes on 3rd & 20. Kelce has 94 yards on three catches.

2ND QTR - 1:55 - Chiefs take the lead after 2-minute warning

After the Chiefs defense forced Pressley Harvin III to punt the ball for a sixth time this game, Mahomes found Kelce on a quick pass, and the tight end ran 31 yards after contact. McKinnon picked up another first down on a 15-yard rush before running for 10+ more yards the very next play.

Following the two-minute warning, Chiefs took the lead as Mahomes completed a TD pass to Pringle on 3rd & 7. A flag for roughing the passer will be enforced on the kickoff.

2ND QTR - 5:45 - Jerick McKinnon TD helps Chiefs tie the game

Tyreek Hill made back-to-back receptions to help Mahomes move the chains. McKinnon then gained 14 yards on a short pass from his QB, followed by a false start on the offense to continue the drive on 1st & 15.

Mahomes rushed for 23 yards to pick up another first down and nearly reach the red zone. Travis Kelce set up a 1st & GOAL on a perfect pass from Mahomes, who then threw the TD shovel pass to McKinnon. Chiefs advanced 76 yards in eight plays to tie the game.

2ND QTR - 10:41 - Watt makes up for mistake with TD

Watt pulled Derrick Gore's facemask for a 15-yard penalty, but made up for it the very next play. Darrell Williams fumbled the ball, and Watt picked it up to run into the end zone for the first score of the night. Williams had actually recovered his fumble before dropping the ball once again for Watt's first career touchdown.

2ND QTR - 11:22 - Big Ben has 19 passing yards

Diontae Johnson caught a pass from Big Ben for a first down, but Steelers couldn't move the chains after that. Roethlisberger has 19 passing yards on 4 of 10 completions, so far.

END OF 1ST QUARTER - Steelers 0-0 Chiefs

Mahomes completed a pass to Demarcus Robinson on 3rd & 11 to extend the drive with a minute left in the first quarter. A few plays later, on 3rd & 9, Mahomes couldn't complete the pass, finishing the quarter with a punt. Big Ben will start the next 15 minutes on his own 19.

1ST QTR - 4:12 - Scoreless after 7 possessions

After Juju Smith-Schuster caught his first ball of the night, Steelers finally picked up a first down, but couldn't overcome 3rd & 8 to capitalize on Mahomes' interception. A flag on the offense pushed Big Ben back to 3rd & 13, ending the drive with an incomplete to bring the punt team on the field for the fourth time tonight.

1ST QTR - 6:22 - Mahomes intercepted as TJ Watt deflects ball

After a great punt return by Hardman, Mahomes threw an interception on his first pass attempt of the drive. TJ Watt deflected the ball for Devin Bush Jr. to catch the ball.

1ST QTR - 7:12 - Big Ben sacked on 3rd & 2

The third possession for Pittsburgh ended like the previous two - with a three-and-out. Hardman returned the punt 49 yards into Steelers territory for Mahomes to start on the opponent's 20.

1ST QTR - 8:45 - First 1st down of the game, but no score

Jerick McKinnon picked up 20 yards for the first 1st down of the night for either side after a completion by Mahomes. On 3rd & 6, Byron Pringle caught a pass from his QB, but was one yard short of another first down.
