Why is Hennessy so popular Reddit

I just googled Hennessy and it was like 40 bucks for the bottle that I’ve seen rappers hold and brag about. I’m too young to drink so I don’t really understand if that’s a lot but I feel like it’s not for a rapper ya know?

I'm not being accusatory or prejudiced but I'm just genuinely curious. I work at a liquor store and the only people I see buying Hennessey are black. Is it a cultural thing?

Why are all rappers obsessed with Hennessy??? from StonerThoughts

I am operator at a liquor store and black customers are completely in love with Hennessy. I like cognacs myself and there are much better cognacs for same or less prices (Remy, Martell to name a few). Hennessy is OK but I would get something else for that price. Why so much love for Hennessy among black communities? Not saying Asians or whites don’t drink them but 90%+ are purchased by black folks. Why?

Edit: I also want to mention that I am an immigrant and do not fully understand culture. Question is for geniune cultural curiosity .

I am looking to try a decent but not too expensive cognac. I see Hennessey is a big name, but all I hear about it is from bad rap music and standup comedy. Is it a decent drink?

What other suggestions could you offer for an affordable cognac or Armagnac?

TIL the popularity of Hennessy cognac in hip hop and African American culture dates back to both world wars where African American troops were introduced to it in France, which celebrated their culture much earlier than the US from todayilearned

So I want to try out Hennessy, all my friends love drinking it. We’re all in our teens obviously they’re drinking it to get wasted, I never drank a cognac before and I wonder if it has a good flavour even though I won’t be able to tell what I’m tasting. Is the bottom shelf of cognac, or typical cognac. I know it’s a hyped up drink

My grandparents drank cognac - from my point of view it’s super old fashioned but now it’s all over the place in popular culture. Do they have an amazing marketing team that has relaunched it or was it just coincidence?
