Why was the Reds game postponed today?

The Cleveland Guardians and Cincinnati Reds had their game washed away Wednesday night due to the inclement weather and have rescheduled it for Thursday, May 19 at 1:10 PM.

As noted by the club, fans who had tickets to tonight's game can attend tomorrow's without taking any further action. If a fan chooses not to go to tomorrow's game, an exchange must be made into one of the 28 other game options before first pitch.

The team has been without skipper Terry Francona due to MLB's Health and Safety protocols after he tested positive for COVID-19 while the team was in Chicago last week. Tito was set to make his return tonight, but will now resume his position on Thursday.

The club is also still without first baseman Josh Naylor but he is expected to return to the lineup as soon as Friday.

The Guardians had came up short last night in extra innings against the Reds and were looking to get back on the winning track on Wednesday. Cal Quantrill was set to take the mound tonight -- and should be expected to get the nod for tomorrow's start.

CINCINNATI — The game between the Colorado Rockies and Cincinnati Reds scheduled for Saturday night was postponed after a wait of 3 hours, 45 minutes.

The game never got started and will be made up as part of a traditional doubleheader on Sunday.

A concert by country music star Cole Swindell, originally planned for the field after the game, went on during the delay from an area under cover between the ballpark and the adjacent indoor arena. The concert was shown on the ballpark video boards.

Both scheduled starting pitchers, Colorado’s Germán Márquez (7-10, 4.97 ERA) and Cincinnati’s Nick Lodolo (3-5, 4.30), began warming up in anticipation of a 9:50 p.m. start before the rain increased and the field was re-covered.

Márquez and Lodolo are scheduled to start Sunday's opener. Rockies righty José Ureña (3-5, 5.80) and Reds righty Chase Anderson (0-2, 27.00) are due to start the nightcap.

Colorado went into Saturday last in the NL West. The Rockies have lost seven of their last nine games.

Reds second baseman Jonathan India, last season’s NL Rookie of the Year, is on a career-high 15-game hitting streak (21 of 59, .356), the longest active string in the major leagues.

Why was the Reds game postponed today?

After a rain delay, a set new start time, another rain delay, another new set start time, and then another rain delay, the game on Saturday night between the Cincinnati Reds and the Colorado Rockies was officially postponed at 10:24pm.

The two teams have a doubleheader scheduled for Sunday afternoon at 12:10pm ET. The forecast doesn’t look great, but they’re going to do their best to try and get something happening as the two teams do not share an off day moving forward this season.

The Cincinnati Reds game on Saturday night was postponed due to rain, but at least the fans who waited three hours and 45 minutes got to see a concert. The Reds will play a traditional doubleheader on Sunday against the Colorado Rockies, beginning at 12:10.

The scheduled 6:40 start was delayed due to a downpour. Country music singer Cole Swindell was scheduled to play a concert after the game, but the Reds had him play during the delay. He wore a Kyle Farmer jersey and entertained the crowd, and it initially looked like the game would begin right after Swindell's concert ended.

The Reds announced that the game would begin at 9:50. Starting pitcher Nick Lodolo went out to the bullpen to warm up, and the position players were in the dugout ready to take the field. But at 9:47, the grounds crew put the tarp back onto the field.

About 45 minutes after that, the game was officially postponed.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — The game between the St. Louis Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds was postponed on Sunday because of rain.

The final game of the three-game set was called at 12:31 p.m. local time. It will be made up on Sept. 17 as part of a day-night doubleheader.

St. Louis won the first two games of the series 11-3 and 7-3. The teams will meet in the first game after the All-Star break on Friday in Cincinnati.

The rainout stalled the comeback of St. Louis pitcher Steven Matz, who was scheduled to start. Matz returned from the 15-day injured list on Sunday and would have made his first appearance since May 22 when he left the game after four pitches because of left shoulder impingement.

TRAINER’S ROOM

Cardinals: Nolan Arenado was selected to the All-Star team, but has decided not to attend the event in order to rest his back.

UP NEXT

Reds: Begin a 10-game homestand on Friday against St. Louis. Cincinnati will also host Miami and Baltimore.

Cardinals: Will kick off a 10-day, eight-game road trip in Cincinnati on Friday. The trip includes stops in Washington and Toronto.
