Georgia is not the state that has sold the most winning lottery tickets. The title goes to New York and California. However, the Peach State has produced its fair share of millionaires.

There have been 15 Mega Millions winners in Georgia since 2002, according to the Mega Millions. The most recent winning numbers belonged to a LLC who purchased the ticket at White Water Chevron on Cobb Parkway.

The Powerball jackpot has grown to an estimated $1 billion (or about $497.3 million in cash) after no winning tickets were sold on Saturday, making it the second-largest jackpot in Powerball history, according to a press release from game officials.

Drawing for the winner on Monday will mark the game's second-largest jackpot ever, and fifth-largest in U.S. lottery history overall. The largest world record was $1.586 billion, per the release.

Lottery officials said that the odds of winning the current jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million, and the overall odds of winning a prize, in general, are 1 in 24.9 million.

Powerball Jackpot Climbs to an Estimated $800 Million — the Second-Biggest Prize in Its History

Saturday's drawing, which was estimated at $825 million, saw no matching tickets from white balls 19, 31, 40, 46, and 57, and red Powerball 23. The winner would have won a cash value of $410.2 million.

Powerball officials said 6 tickets won a $1 million prize, with two sold in California and Michigan, and one each in Maryland and Texas.

Nobody has won the Powerball grand prize in nearly three months ahead of Saturday's game. The most recent Powerball jackpot winner earned a $206.9 million prize on Aug. 3 with their ticket purchased in Pennsylvania.

Powerball currently holds the world record for the highest lottery jackpot ever won.

That jackpot, which took place in January 2016, was worth approximately $1.5 billion — more than double the current grand prize. Three winning tickets were sold in California, Florida and Tennessee.

This summer, Mega Millions recorded its own second-largest jackpot, worth $1.337 billion. The organization said it was the third-largest jackpot of any U.S. lottery game.

The winning ticket was purchased at a gas station about 20 miles northwest of Chicago, according to the organization.

Five people have won Powerball jackpots in 2022, lottery officials said. The largest jackpot of the year was won on Jan. 5, with winners in California and Wisconsin splitting the $632.6 million grand prize.

Lottery officials said the winning ticket from Friday night's drawing - worth $270 million - was sold in Portal, which is west of Statesboro in east Georgia.

In addition to the grand prize winner, 36 players matched all five numbers but not the Mega Ball number. They will receive second prizes of $250,000 each.

Another 207 players matched four numbers, plus the Mega Ball number - good for third prizes of $10,000 each.

Six California players matched five numbers, and another 38 matched four of the five lotto numbers, plus the Mega Ball number. The prize amounts in California are different than what prize winners in the other Mega Ball participating states would receive.

The next drawing - worth $12 million - will be Tuesday.

The winning numbers from Friday night's drawing were: 7, 12, 13, 19 and 22. The Mega Ball number was 10.

Early Saturday, lotto officials announced a person in Michigan won the prize, estimated at $1 billion or $739.6 million should the winner choose a lump-sum payment -- before taxes.

The winning ticket was sold at a Kroger in Novi, a northern suburb of Detroit -- about a 30-minute drive from the city -- the state lottery website confirmed. The winning numbers were 4-26-42-50-60 with a Mega Ball number of 24.

The winner's identity has not been revealed, but, per state lottery rules, they must come forward to claim their winnings.

The winner will have two options to collect the record prize, the lottery said in a statement: "The first is an escalating annuity that offers an initial payment, then annual payments for 29 years. The player also may select a one-time cash payment of about $739 million. If a player selects the cash option, they will receive about $530 million after tax withholdings."
