3/4 sleeve vs full sleeve tattoo

Love this sub. I'm on a waiting list to get my first tattoo done and I'm having apprehension on what to get done in regards to sleeve length. I'm debating between a full or 3/4 sleeve. I think my biggest apprehension with the full sleeve is the ability to easily cover it if the need arise.

I'm curious to hear those with 3/4 sleeves, what made you go that route vs full sleeve?

My goal is to eventually get a body suit(back, half legs etc) but the sleeves will be the most visible part.

Some times I look at 3/4 sleeves and love the look. Sometimes I think it's the tattoo equivalent of Capri pants lol

Part of me thinks I may be over thinking this as it's my first tattoo.

Thanks for any insight

What is a 3/4 sleeve tattoo?

In Japanese tattoo a 3/4 sleeve is known as a shichibu, which runs from the shoulder to middle of the forearm. Also a popular term in Japanese fashion, it's called shichibu as (roughly translated) the ink runs to where the collars of a long-sleeved shirt can be comfortably rolled up.

How long does it take to get a 3/4 sleeve tattoo?

Most tend to take around 15 hours to complete, but there are tattoo designs that have taken over 80 hours. These hours are divided into multiple sessions, and the time between the sessions will depend on how quickly you heal. This means that a complex full sleeve tattoo can take up to a year or more to complete.

What is considered a full sleeve tattoo?

The most common sleeve tattoo is a full sleeve, which covers the arm entirely in tattoos from the shoulder to the wrist. Other variations of sleeves are the half-sleeve and quarter-sleeve.

Should I get a quarter sleeve?

If you have to cover the tattoo for work, the best place to start would be a quarter sleeve. Planning the tattoo and choosing the tattoo artist to complete the work are the most important factors to consider. These will affect the whole tattoo if they are not thought out thoroughly and planned well.
